belong, began their careers in Wellington. Their music style is difficult to make out, it varies from soul, funk and jazz to reggae, dub to hip hop and folk. Fat Freddy's Drop describe their genre itself Hi-Tek Soul Groove. Their newest album "Based on a True Story" is an admirable result of this band. Every single track is varied, exciting and offers tempo and mood churning. In these changing but the band sounds at any time arbitrarily, but very well thought out. In the first song, "Ernie" is heard at the beginning only piano sounds. There are also wind and a bit dubby electro sound. Only much later uses a reggae groove with vocals, which relatively quickly attracts the pace before the song quietly and thoughtfully go finally come to an end. Unbelievable is the voice of the singer Joe Duky, not only in this song. Not for nothing he was recently awarded the New Zealand Music Award for Best Vocalist. This incredible voice comes in the slower "Dark Days" advantage. In "Cay's Cray" he presents himself very melodic. The band released but also joyful songs can be on the songs "Roady" and "Wandering Eye" see. In "Wandering Eye" is most probably one or the other carried away and slaps at the grandiose song with. This is a terrific CD is recommended in any case very. I've been waiting eagerly awaiting the next album this 7-piece band, even if one has certainly not quickly heard on this CD fed up!
