I looked the other day several sites devoted to "Great literature" and it is clear that the novels of "SF" or "fantastic" be counted on the fingers of one hand. Yet even when contained therein books like "The Martian Chronicles" the great Ray Bradbury but mostly it "Ubik" of Philip K. Dick. There is still justice, lol. Philip Kindred Dick, who died prematurely spawned us some timeless SF novels such as the book I'll review you but also "The Man in the High Castle" where even "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch." "UBIK" is truly a digest of all the themes of the Science Fiction and even more. We find indeed leit-motif as the arrival of a fully capitalist world (the book was written in 1966). With "UBIK" Everything is paid and each chapter found a quote telling the reader "Ubik ended", "Ubik gives you up", "Rekindle your floors tarnished with Ubik", "your financial problems concern you ?? Ubik credit "etc ... In addition, it costs money to open his door, pay to open her refrigerator, for a shower etc ... in short, nothing is free. This means nothing to you ???? The themes of death, time travel and telepathy are also very important and truly present in the novel. In this book, the dead continue to live artificially and their families and friends can communicate with them in what Dick called "moratoriums". Early History: Joe Chip is a bohemian guy who never has a penny on it. Yet it is a prodigy which is what is called an anti-shrinks. He works for the company Glen Runcinter and will face a great threat. To sum "Ubik" is a kind of dream or rather nightmare where nothing is consistent and paranoia is never far away. This novel is what some people call the "intelligent science fiction" and I totally agree with this. A must novel that more is quite short (280 pages). I recommend it. Adanson Marco.
