Excellent extension for those who like to play in building a common life (work, relationships, children, etc.). The special feature of this extension is that you do not immediately see what's new, it's during the game they appear, new actions, new objects and full of surprises. ;) The life phases toddler / child / adolescent that I found tedious with that are richer and extension FAR more fun! The number of shares, objects, thoughts and possibilities exploded with this extension! You now fully live each phase of life. My favorite new feature is the imaginary friend (a doll that "lives" and that only your Sims can see) but also new long-term rewards like legacy that will get you a gracious legacy of a distant relative (33,000 Simoleons for myself;)
In summary, I recommend the extension for those who like to play in a lifetime "classic" family life. But also to all those who find the toddler phase / child / adolescent "hollow". I, who hesitated between Ambitions and Generations, I'm not disappointed for choosing Generations. :) Not recommended for those who want news directly (new city, etc.), head instead to Ambitions and World Adventures that offer "gameplay" changed. Generations focuses on classic gameplay: family life by making it much more lively.
