Style:
The design of Dell's top-notch. It is deliberately dispensed with piano lacquer. Since this gets small scratches after the first brushing and in my eyes somehow "cheap" acts, I find the matte screen frame perfectly. The side and top frame is kept very, very narrow (2mm). How does that relate to the image utilization, I describe in "dual mode" section. Only the lower frame is slightly higher and has 5 unlit touch buttons for setting. The silver foot completes the look with the dark matt of the frame from very classy.
Setup / Setting:
The device is easy. Cable ran, select source - runs. Whether with DisplayPort or DVI (to HDMI). I had no problems.
I am particularly impressed but the monitor stand. This leaves nothing to be desired placement. The monitor can be adjusted in height and align three axes. Especially in dual operation is important because you can do both monitors together perfectly, without that one has to get over just half a millimeter difference in height or a gap. Those who wish can monitor (or monitors) use in the pivot position, ie turn the image upright.
Picture:
The picture is pleasant and perfectly evenly illuminated. There is no lighter areas at the edges. Moreover, it is so stable angle that you see no color distortion when a second monitor easily arranges (like me) inclined (20 degrees). At 24 inches the sharpness of the image in FullHD normal desk-seat distance is sufficiently sharp. That should also be the odd year remain so - until we all enjoy ourselves with 10K displays.
Dual operation:
As mentioned above, I have the model twice next to each other in operation. The most important information is safe here, how big is the net gap from monitor to monitor. This is exactly 12mm in this model.
So little edge is certainly top league in the price range. For office applications and work where one uses both monitors effectively, you not noticed the narrow transition.
Other:
The Menüeführung the Dell U2414H is typically kept simple and self-explanatory. A nice feature is that, for example, appears when adjusting brightness a green energy bar. Thus one can estimate size when configuring how economically you are traveling.
Criticism:
A few things I still found that I do not like so well.
It lacks a DVI input. At current time this is certainly superseded by HDMI but who already brings a wide range of interfaces, DVI should support soon enough.
The feet have an oval hole through which the cables are routed to route everything clean. Unfortunately, the hole with 20mm is quite narrow. Unfortunately, the screens on my HDMI cable will not fit through. This I must now lay beside it. Here 5mm have already helped more.
Another point is the touch buttons. These tend to react excessively and can be found in low light only by coarse Rumdrücken on the screen. Half as bad as I set my monitor 1x in life.
Last but not least the power LEDs. In operation, take this not true. If PC is but shut down and one uses no power strip with switch, thread them first and then light up permanently - and that little too bright for my taste.
Conclusion:
Dell U2414H is a premium monitor with top equipment and maximum adjustment flexibility. The design is timeless and very practical. At the processing and image quality, there is nothing to complain about.
I can monitor really recommend and give account of the above criticisms 4.5 stars.
