That's a bestseller management is actually a manual of pragmatic communication referred to the very general, probably one of the pioneers of personal development. The life span of management books is relatively short, the fact transformations of companies and their adaptation to a macroeconomic and societal changing universe. Also, exceptional longevity of it (seventy years already) may appear as a quality challenge, at least the publisher beforehand this selling point. The stated objective is to help the reader to work on her relationship to others and to defuse conflicts of everyday life. The author believes in motivation by sharing, altruism and trust, he banishes the brutal orders, indiscriminate sanctions, threats, management by fear. The book is structured in thirty very pragmatic lessons, abundantly illustrated with examples from history or experience of Dale Carnegie and his students. Carnegie studied and experienced psychology and human behavior for years to uncover the factors allowing some exceptional leaders to draw those around them up. After teaching for many years and hundreds of students the results of his research, he wrote this book, summary of his work. The book is very accessible, applicable to all social situations (work, family, etc.), and oriented to immediate practical use. However, it is fairly well argued and often entertaining. Although the author denies it, one can not help but be bothered by a "trick and tricks" approach, which seeks to inculcate effective behavior towards each other, rather than change of attitude Yet deep pleads for which Carnegie explicitly. The author would indeed deliver key technologies in hand, and we can not help thinking that a thorough work on the self and its relation to the other would be an interesting complement, if not essential, reading and applying the work. Yet reading "How to win friends and influences people" opens many doors to him who has the will to dig those 250 pages.
