With "The Real Thing", the combo led by the eccentric Mike Patton delivers its metal arrows in all directions, and it is better to bend down if you do not want to be hit hard. Faith No More comes from this second album released in 1989 as one of the most innovative and intelligent group of heavy-metal, mixing it with other genres, starting with the rap (which earned him the label very simplistic rap-metal group); Alternative Metal would be fairer or metal protean, which would open the way to Korn and others. There are quite a few rap-metal passages ("Epic", "Falling To Pieces", "The Morning After"), but ultimately very minority in this superbly eclectic album, eclectic but dazzling, like "From Out Of Nowhere "or" Surprise, "Surprise! You're Dead! "And strong contrasts securities (" Zombie Eaters "," The Real Thing "and the instrumental" Woodpecker From Mars "phenomenal). Phenomenal also the cover of Black Sabbath," War Pigs " often considered superior to the original, even if it does not mean much. But my favorite title is "Underwater Love" great, powerful, melodic and well balanced too. A superb achievement, the best of the group with "Angel Dust," less direct opus, more adventurous and open to other musical trends. For me, "The Real Thing", however, remains that the combo of San Francisco has produced best.
