After I've learned to appreciate separate Onkyo, Sony and Denon in conjunction with loudspeaker systems for. B. of Canton and hell, I was curious about this test. Suitable for home theater, audiophile or just simply nice "It depends - for many, the set is a good introduction to a crisp sound experience.
1) Design and Installation: Because I know the Sony menu logic (eg PS3 old, Receiver STR-DN1030), handed me to the entrance the Quick Start Guide.. After the fast driving of the Kunstofffüße with four speakers that can also hang well (no accessories here), I have attached the color-coded speaker cables to the two amplifiers and the speakers. The supplied cables have a very thin cross section, the more cheap contact terminals already here show a savings potential on - real banana plug connectors can not be expected, of course. Pinching the speaker ends the speakers is a bit fiddly, but then everything is clear. The three front speakers and the Subi be back on the main unit plugged in, while the separate amplifiers for the two Surrounds two ports are also available. With this accessory you are more flexible in the lineup and needs for Surrounds no (kilo) embarrassed meter cable in space, yet it takes for the two but one cable for connection.
I have the Sony BDVN7200WB connected by a qualified HDMI cable with our 50-inch plasma and made the installation of the device menu. Since I already fundamentally different from my previous Blu-ray Player (Sony BDP-S185) or know this menu of the PS3, I found my way around immediately and have made certain settings (for example, even screen size for 3D playback in cm diagonal). That worked quickly. In particular, the integration into the network is unexciting (I use in normal operation a LAN cable - Wireless internet is also available and works), the network was wanted and quickly found and the latest firmware M21.R.0113 be played after confirmation - that's it. Now z. B. to additional data (Gracenote) for Blu-rays or supplementary services are accessed, but I know already from my other Sony devices, beautiful thing, but other manufacturers offer such a thing, of course, long been on.
2.) Start-up: after the basic configuration is now to the actual setting of the speakers. Here you can the supplied microphone back on Sony BDVN7200WB connect (longer cable, CAUTION tripping hazard) and automatically levels. There are now automatically by signals and sounds the speaker distance measured from the microphone and determines the level at which they are to play the sound in the future. Therefore, the microphone is ideally lay on the typical "listening position at ear height. The measurement results are not as accurate as z. B. the calibration microphone of my Yamaha sound bar, but for the time being useful. I've been using a separate microphone nachgemesen again and also a ruler endeavor. The following corrections were not dramatic, but I recommend grds. some readjustment, possibly by ear, the center should not be too superficial sound and the Subi not be intrusive.
3.) The sound: the decisive criterion in addition to the functionality of the Sony BDVN7200WB. First of all: Yes, the set is completely suitable for home theater, the spatial positioning is really impressive when the size of the speakers! Clear voice reproduction, good effects, the Surrounds bring a very well; with proper Einmesspegeln and ideal position of the subwoofer (just try it once, where the bass sounds the sexiest, possible without drone) can Popkornkino in 2D or 3D enjoy on TV or projector, but also scare neighbors. Volume is really a problem. The Front List of all 5 loudspeaker transmits sounds interesting, but I have not tested this.
Since I can use comparisons, but I also hear differences with other sets. Who wants to have z. B. abysmal and bone dry bass, this can, of course, a passive subwoofer this price range do not really expect. But absolute precision and operation of dröhnfreier subis also depend very much on the drawing up of the room. High-quality sets can make the cut-off frequency for example at 80 Hz, otherwise 100 -. 120 Hz not uncommon here and you could the Subi acoustically even places. I recommend the use of spikes o. Ä. Under the subwoofer to this from the ground noticeably decouple that can sometimes work wonders, and optimize the sound significantly. Also, I have reduced the level determined by 2dB at Subi, that sounds much more unobtrusive and yet provides enough punch in the stomach!
The little center has otherwise surprises me (in conjunction with the subwoofer) the most - I use for Beamer evenings otherwise a copy of Magnat, which is many times larger and heavier and also very stable levels. The little "Sony is here but no nakedness and may well convince especially linguistically also without it sounds penetrated and you look much larger center wishes - respect!
4) The image: here I can so far see any drawbacks. My previous Sony BDP-S185 player has not made me a lot of fun, the Sony BDVN7200WB can also impress with a great picture and sound appropriate. HDMI connection:. Whether 1080p playback, 24Hz o 25Hz - my plasma swallows everything and übereugt here by a top image, the projector also (but only 720p) is pleased. Annoying is sometimes but the fan of Sony BDVN7200WB (see below). 2 more HDMI inputs can also be used (eg console, satellite receiver).
4) Processing and Quality: What you get for your money? Let's make no mistake about it, in a set, which costs as much as a good active subwoofer in the middle entry level one can not expect miracles where there are positives where deductions? The first impression is revealed quickly. The total weight of the system is saying a lot already. Very much lighter plastic, but still quite well-made, high-gloss finish that reveals "fat" finger unfortunately quickly. Despite plastic charm but not an absolute cheap character, on the contrary - the latest in hearing here is lack of aluminum or similar matter... The speaker cables are grds for connection. very convenient (color) otherwise I would never run so light-gauge cables themselves. Since here but available cable lengths up to 3m in length, this disadvantage into perspective somewhat. The Sony BDVN7200WB itself is a visual treat and should freihstehend be used, also here are footprints by touch quickly recognizable. Although I have never had a facility of this kind, but the drawer opening to the right is reminiscent of B & O design and makes a high impression.
There are departures for the time being, when operated by the remote control and the unit. I had in testing sporadic problems in the regulation of the volume (up, down). First I had the batteries in suspicion, but also on the free-access device even not not it went, also fast forward z. B. then. If I am called during the TV enjoyment, it must be possible to switch the unit immediately silence (well it worked a few times not equal to). Some Blu-rays I had degegen no problems. Should be due to Abtastproblemen, I will continue to monitor critical (if a firmware update?).
Another shortcoming is the built-in Sony BDVN7200WB fan. My Sony BDP-S185 player has no fan and is only in the early stages of certain drive noise, and then it is relatively quiet. Not so the Sony BDP-S185 player: the fan is always heard, possibly this also turns on sometimes louder (I have to wait and see whether the eg in the summer is a problem.). With the appropriate seat removal but that's usually not a real problem, especially when the sound of the movie or the music is normal to loud. In quiet passages, the fan is noticeable but I know that not everyone is - but probably for most not a huge problem. The normal drive noise are ok (silent operation).
5). Equipment and accessories: reasonably priced, but an HDMI cable could have been forking out. Because I have enough "reserve", no problem for me, but it will cost an extra again. The Quick Start Guide is otherwise a good solution in order to exhaust the set, but you should definitely download the complete manual. Environmental Technically a good solution - but there are contemporaries who insist on printed copies, and I can understand that. The usable setup microphone, an FM antenna and remote control complete the whole from then. The remote control is indeed partly colorful, but not practical in dark home theater, because the keys are not beleuchet. The pressure point of the Enter key "is not always handy for me as I headed down scroll to confirm easily verrutsche and z. B. from the menu instead.
Note: 4K material I have can not test (only Full HD material), but here's some future viability exists.
In short form (s. Otherwise the text above)
+ Home theater-compatible sound at high levels possible sound Surround Sound - Night mode to protect "the neighbors practically
+ Center can despite the small size with language and play quite convincing
+ Visually attractive processing, you look the plastic character is not immediately
+ Lightweight construction allows flexible accommodation, including wall mounting, place it on feet
+ Setup microphone simplifies initial installation
+ Available via App SongPal z. B. Spotify
+/- Reasonable Subwoofer: no active Subi, receives its power from the main unit, no bone-dry and absolutely precise bass, but with proper preparation it provides what you need for your home theater: atmosphere and solid bass foundation - I have withdrawn the measured level, because the subwoofer sounds too aufringlich anything else
+/- No Bluetooth 4.0, but NFC (I can with my apple "devices do not use unfortunately)
+/- Audiophile qualities can not be expected of course - here I use when needed continue my classical "Equipment
+/- Not cover the speaker fronts - but is a visual taste. I like it with my current equipment like times with and without.
- Audible fan (tend disturbing for me, especially in conjunction with quiet music enjoyment and if you are otherwise not used to it)
- Remote control for lack of lighting is not sufficient home theater fit
- Fat finger problem / dust problem
- Cheap cable stripping small cross-section
- No HDMI cable as accessory
- Currently: Sporadic problems occur when operating on (. Eg volume control), delayed processing of commands - if that is a general problem, but I can not judge
Conclusion: a lot of home theater for an acceptable price. A 5.1 set with subwoofer and Blu-ray (amplifier) with a lot of plastic, which nevertheless "is visually attractive and eye and ear spoiled -. But a downside is the dust sensitivity (especially in conjunction with Black) If it bothers (me . for example), a swing set with the latest technology, you can sweep halt regularly combined - here you get a fair price value priced.. Operation 5 points, due to the current restrictions for the time being only 3-4 points, Conveniences / 4 points - 4 points in total. About new experiences I will report.
