If it is true that the recording of "Sleeper" from April 16, 1979 and submitted those to "Personal Mountains" on 16 and 17 April 1979 then only the play "Late Night Willie" from the "Personal Mountains" dial to select "Nakano Sun Plaza" to be taken from the first concert of the European Quartet in Tokoyter because all the other four tracks on "Personal Mountains" are also included on "Sleeper" and partly differ significantly from the recording the next day. This raises an interesting light on the art of improvisation of genius musicians of Jarrett's European Quartet. Obviously, the different versions are in fact an expression of each new creative act at a concert evening. And of course is not always everything when such acts of creation. The number "Personal Mountains" for example, is on "Sleeper" intense and expressive as advised on 17.4., While the great song "Innocence" has become the next day to a more focused, better version. In "Sleeper" springs "Innocence" a direct transition from the opener "Personal Mountains" (the beginning of at least one and a half minutes is tracked too early). Only after a somewhat expressionless interlude uses the theme of "Innocence". The old Jarrett composition "So Tender" blows Jan Garbarek with his saxophone new life - a very successful number! The longest piece is unfortunately also the clearly weakest: "Oasis" (as well as on the album "Nude Ants", which was recorded a few weeks later in a small New York jazz club) get way too long. The nice thing is subject gets lost in too long, unconvincing flute intro of Garbarek and other, more experimental phases in that half-hour, which lasts "Oasis". The next day the piece good 10 minutes turned out shorter and considerably more stringent. "Chant Of The Soil 'is interpreted against very powerful and is one of the highlights of the album (better than on" Nude Ants "). Very fine sound and "Prism", the "Sleeper" version still does not come up to the inclusion of this classic by Jarrett Standards Trio on the DVD "standards" from 1985. A nice ending is "New Dance". Overall, "Sleeper" another nice document the formidable European Quartet of Keith Jarrett. However, other pieces of this formation should also be published once in live versions.
