I have the record now set up one afternoon and tested under all circumstances with all devices and can only say, thus far it runs perfectly. Connected I have among others with 2 PCs and a laptop, where I have all the software installed on my computer to set up. Basically, the plate can also be operated without software in the net. It was listed with me in Windows 7 immediately after the start of "Network".
I run the plate on a Belkin Router (Model: F5D8235) and, since I no longer had free ports on a switch by TP-Link (Model: TL-SF1008D). Both devices do not support Gigabit modem speed, but the reading and writing speed is perfectly okay, because definitely faster than on a USB flash drive (USB 2.0) - I did not yet have a USB 3.0 interface. When reciprocating Herkopieren I have a speed of 10 MB / s Page Delicious for me it was enough. Have such copies in 19 minutes about 10GB mp3s - lt Windows copy dialog.. The stream of both music and movies ran on internal network and aussetzer- over Internet and smoothly.
Furthermore, I have the drive connected properly with both Samsung Galaxy S3 and could access both via Internet, or via Wi-Fi to my data. Even on my home theater system from Sony (Model: BDV-N7100WB) the plate was without having to make any adjustments recognized as a media server as well as on my old Hama WLAN Internet Tuner (Model: 00,062,789). Test with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and my PS3 I have not yet carried out. But I assume that they run just as easily. Should not be the case, I'm going to this report here.
So one can say in advance ... when it comes to equipment, speed and connectivity I like the product so far properly.
My biggest concern I had was the matter of the standby error. The first time you call up the Web configuration interface you get an immediate overview displayed in the key information immediately at a glance. U. a. You get shown the version of the firmware. This is marked with a red "X" if it is not up to date. I have downloaded and installed directly via the interface. Many reports on the standby problem is to read namely that this has been resolved with newer firmware. I do not know whether it had worked with the firmware installed at the factory, but v03.04.01-219 with the latest firmware now I have the standby problem, anyway. The pity is that is not written, how long the drive must be unused until it goes into standby mode. I got in any case after 10 minutes a little panic when the blue LED was always Nocht the light continuously. After about 20 minutes I again indulged and lo and behold ... the LED was getting dark and light again ... so I guess that the plate about 15 - 20 minutes must be unused until it in standby mode changes. Nevertheless, so a small "Contra" is connected to the plate ... Western Digital should make improvements here necessarily, so you can adjust the idle time until the standby in the web interface. And it should also be mentioned, the board goes in standby when the PC is running, which I have just stated, as the fact that the network activity LED flashing on the network cable socket and in standby mode merrily. So do not panic !!! The drive should then still go sometime in standby.
The main reason to buy the "My Cloud" of Western Digital was that WD thus advertises that the plate without having to make the router settings to be accessible over the Internet. And I can only confirm that this is exactly the case. It must be released no ports on the router or proxies are reporting. Class. For I have tried to make it just a normal external hard drive to my quite something outdated router via Internet accessible and bin it failed, because with my router an account with "DynDNS.org" requires it. All too complicated and, unfortunately, not or no longer free. So I was hoping that it's so easy with the "My Cloud", as advertised by the manufacturer.
That made me so far with most excited about and that I have no documentation required for the establishment. I know me though, I'd like to say, already above average with PC or electronics, with myself appropriated knowledge. But I would argue that putting the plate also for people who are not so well versed in the field, should not pose much of a problem. Software and web interface are very clear and self-explanatory and large actually.
My conclusion after only one day ... TOP product! Surely the one or other "Fehlerchen" in the software ... but everything I wanted so far, has 100% working ... strong buy recommendation ...
ATTENTION! UPDATE! - 03/14/2014
Have the cloud now for about a week in use. Home on the PC and on the registered devices does everything to the extent properly until that sometimes show my home theater system and the PS3 the message that there are no files, and then jump out again from the list of hard disk. This is a little annoying, but to get over.
The worse problem is that I can not always reach the cloud from outside, neither through another PC, even via mobile phone or tablet. I now therefore connect to the Internet but is set to "manual" and the required ports enabled on the router. Were I not really, because the disk is indeed advertised the fact that you actually have to adjust anything on the router (port forwarding, proxy, etc.). But after this change I have been every time can connect externally to the HDD. Too bad that one of the main reasons why I bought the plate is thus obsolete. If me in the next few days, notice despite manual port forwarding again that I can not connect, I will make known this here again.
