Paxton's book released in France in 1974 breaks completely with the previous historiography which used the memories of the protagonists, their justification postwar Petain and ranked among those who had saved the most of French independence in the face of demands German increasing. Paxton uses only the documents of the time and not supporting from 1950, greenhouse near the chronology between French and German legislation requirements. It finally appears that Pétain did not give in to the Germans led all but their advances. The method is so rigorous that the previous works have fallen into oblivion (Aron ...) and that the work has not to date received any dispute. A good index!
