The requirements were therefore:
- Most importantly, of course, good image quality (at least at low ISO settings)
- The greatest possible wide-angle, but also the strongest possible push
- Compact dimensions, so no Bridge Camera
- Good automatic programs
- But also extensive options for manual adjustments
- Usable video function for a little movie every now and then
After extensive testing, I regret buying the TZ10 in any way. Although I already the pre-predecessor, the TZ5, and had with her was just very happy as excursion and holiday camera, I informed myself about the current competition models and not viewed the TZ10 by the Lumix glasses.
First impression / Steering:
Taking the TZ10 in the hand, making it a valued and well-made impression of what you can expect in the ordinary but for a compact price but. You can also use only one hand (right) relatively well and hold and trigger, whereby one must generally something to watch out not to cover the flash at least partially. When Lumix Experienced I, the operator can only be described as easy. If you want to explore the many possibilities of the camera accurately, but you should take one or the other view in the detailed instruction manual (PDF file on the enclosed CD). The camera is fast enough to fire. Very nice is the high-resolution display on which one even in unfavorable lighting conditions still sees what. I have the camera set to the last picture taken is displayed until any button is pressed.
Image Quality:
The image quality (and for me that is the decisive factor in any camera) the pictures convinced me. They are sharp and true to color, noise until ISO 200 not an issue, details are well preserved and are not simply weggebügelt, as with many competitors. In this regard, it is in spite of more pixels even slightly better than the old TZ5 which already had a very slight noise with minimal sensitivity. At higher ISO values losses are increasingly accepting, but who photographed mainly with low light, will be happy with hardly a compact. The automatic does an excellent service and guaranteed in most cases great results. Some of the many scene programs make perfect sense and will help in special situations. One can photograph beautiful starry sky or other nighttime motifs with up to 60 s exposure time. Practically I find the helper for panoramic photos that are not created in the camera, but subsequently can be assembled on the PC easily. I leave the work honestly mostly automatic, but think it's great, sometimes around to experiment and stop and / or manually set shutter speed (eg for photos of waterfalls).
An undisputed strength of the TZ10 is the first-class image stabilizer, which is a great help especially when zoomed motives and enables more stable images at relatively low ISO values, where other cameras must match long. He is like the usual class weakness in low light and high ISO speeds of at least partially and makes corresponding receptacles possibly with self-timer with a little practice still quite usable.
Thanks 25mm wide angle you always get beautiful everything is very close and you can picture format (4: 3, 3: 2 or 16: 9) freely choose at different image sizes.
Video feature:
Super image quality. The passable (stereo) sound has improved compared to the old TZ5. Zooming is possible over the entire zoom range, the zoom works but slowed down considerably, which pleasantly stands out during the subsequent viewing of the films. For me as a very-little-filmmaker who yet want to take from time to time a short film in good quality, the Lumix is a full-fledged camera replacement. Somewhat annoying is only the short black screen to start recording. As one can sometimes "escape" the motive.
Battery:
The battery proves yet just as cross-country skiers (GPS from, over 200 photos and a couple of short videos), a slightly longer maturity would have been nice to have a second battery is therefore mandatory. About the price policy with respect. Original batteries (not just at Panasonic) can be upset. I do not do it and rejoice in the advantages of the camera. Then I would rather take the more versatile camera that shoots better photos, and buy me an expensive battery to 1 times when the only reason to accept poorer Cam, because I get the replica for the battery of a no-name company for 3.84.
