The new monitor to replace two, getting on in years 19 "EIZO.
Primary Purpose: photo editing with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and demonstration of images.
Requirements: digital connection, widescreen 16:10, matte / anti-reflective, wide gamut, size 24 "to 30", the monitor should operate completely silently at any brightness setting, fan-cooled via monitors (yes, there really is) not arrived only in the selection.
The bad experience with the NEC MultiSync PA271W (see relevant review), the following consequences had:
- Since I from 5: 4 format (or almost square) umsteige, I was originally not care if the new 16: 9 or 16:10 should have. Already after a few weeks of work I felt the 16:10 format on the PC as a much more pleasant and more practical than 16 (!):. 9 The latter really only suitable for watching movies good, while the normal work on the PC definitely benefited from more height at 16:10.
- Must monitor When looking, apart from the technical data, another important aspect are mitbedacht: the monitor that has been used. Experience shows that users often disrupt specular glare displays, at the first Blur image acting and less bright colors of matte displays. In contrast, users come from good antireflection matte displays, hardly a new glare display clearly. Not only the display may reflect, some manufacturers obstruct its panels beyond in glossy lacquered cabinets with "piano finish", which can also interfere.
The choice fell on the NEC PA271W and the two models EIZO S2433W and CG241W. Gebleiben is EIZO. The rule "Once EIZO - EIZO always" has been confirmed once again.
The monitor was supplied by Amazon quickly, the original packaging repackaged by an Amazon box again. When you have to take out assemble or unscrew anything, simply take out only from the package, install, done. The stand makes a very good impression, the screen can be tilted with minimal effort and adjust the height, it wobbles nothing, despite the relatively small footprint. Base and frame are well kept simple and, above all non-glossy. The panel itself is really very good anti-reflective, yet does not act out of focus, even at small font not.
It was also important, as connected to a Silent-PC: the monitor operates completely silently at each brightness level. That does not seem to be self-evident in many monitors.
The tools of Photoshop and especially Lightroom take on 19 "monitors very much space as remains to select the photograph in the middle of very little space and it falls therefore very small. The EIZO solves with 1920x1200 pixels in order can it work well with Photoshop Lightroom, without ever once the toolbars and having to hide.
The Windows 7 system font is very legible on the S2433W at the native resolution of 1920x1200 and a normal 100% view. The system font does not have to be scaled to 125% or 150%, which sometimes leads to unsightly scaling effects.
What I love about the EIZO like most, are the viewing angles and high contrast. The main reason is that black is really black at the monitor.
For this purpose a statement:
The previously ordered NEC PA271W with IPS panel was sent back because of that. NEC is (just like EIZO) at a viewing angle from 178/178 ° degree. So, I expect that will not change the image and the colors appreciably when I occasionally slightly elevated seats, or when you look at two or three photos side by side on the monitor. Finally to elaborate created on the monitor, and edited images will be presented. In the Black-representation of NEC has completely failed. Even small changes in position ensure that black parts of the image change into bluish or purple, heavily dependent on the viewing angle. Exception is only the ideal situation, when exactly in the middle sitting in front of the monitor and does not move his head. Apparently it is in the "178/178 ° degree" information on IPS panels to fantasy values. This was ultimately the reason why the NEC PA271W was sent back.
Both models EIZO S2433W and CG241W have S-PVA panel. The colors and especially the Black are here from every angle and the same tired, just like my old EIZO L767, although the latter in the technical data "only" 170/160 degrees (V / H) Viewing angle have.
Occasionally, bitched about the power consumption of CFFL-lit monitors. The fact is that reasonable calibrated monitors are never operated at 100% brightness. EIZO is chilled to the usual photo editing 120ccd (= 20% brightness) to 160ccd for presentation. Thus, the monitor consumes significantly less than specified in the technical data maximum value. For me it is much more important, not humming the monitor and not whimpers when the brightness is turned down.
Ultimately, it was all about the question of whether it should be the Hardware calibratable CG241W or S2433W.
The CG241W currently costs 1199 EUR, ie twice the S2433W. Whether the extra cost is worthwhile, everyone must decide for themselves. I have had both monitors are side by side, according to a calibration and profiling with Xrite iDisplay1 the color display on both monitors was virtually identical. Only the S2433W showed determine gradients in dark areas, and only certain colors very slight banding. That's only been seen when testing with a wedge, here the CG241W in fact was marginally better. There really are only nuances, which are unlikely to carry weight even with sophisticated image processing. The construction quality is equally high in both monitors.
When favorable S2433W there are two points that I even like it better than the hardwarekalibrierbaren CG241W:
- The S2433W has 6 directly adjustable via button presets (sRGB, Video, one with more or less color saturation, etc ...), which is handy if you image editing, video, text / web / mail look with different brightness and color temperature want, without adjusting the main profile. By contrast, the CG241W offers only two presets (sRGB and Custom).
- The S2433W has a better stand with round base, which is just as strong, but less space required, and can be moved easily and higher / lower than that of the CG241W.
All in all, are CG241W and S2433W both excellent devices. No halos, no flicker, beautiful colors (if calibrated), no noise, I'm even after a long service life is still very satisfied!
Speaking of life: here EIZO makes no hiding game: you can easily see the menu the previous hours.
