I confirm the excellent responsiveness of the device at the route recalculations.
The capacitive screen with its glass tile is more responsive and pleasant to handle than conventional touch screens. To date I have not found troublesome reflections of problems day or night.
In the least, we must add the loss of some useful functions from previous tomtom:
- Route planner over several intermediate steps
- More function for details (card by card) different
maneuvers points (junctions outputs ...) that will be encountered in
route.
It has just the global map of the route that can zoom or summary of
maneuvers as an impractical text list.
- More guidance system in the tunnels which was well worth the tomtom
950.
- The integrated bousole to card has disappeared and did not not talking about an altimeter
(Very useful in the mountains) still conspicuously absent from tomtom
TomTom has added a very useful when function is used to find parking close to its destination then be guided.
However, there was a huge worries about new tomtom 1000, 1005 and through the end: the platform management MyTomTom soon be operational (no functional end of December) which deprives the updates handling equipment and other essential :
- No possible backup.
- No update maps. On tomtom 1005, the original installed version is 8.55 while the 8.60 map exists since November.
On tomtom 1000 is the 8.50 found to be 2 generations behind!
- The basis of fixed radar sites are outdated.
No worries for against for mobile radars because the update effecte live with Tomtom server in the LIVE service.
- GPS is completely closed to incorporate personal POIs and other facilities provided on previous models.
Tomtom ad to end has an opening for the system in January 2011, but following buggs recorded in mid-December can be widely doubted this calendar (FYI: towards mid-December tomtom had activated the card updates but then backtracked after many download problems faced by customers)
My general opinion: a master choices for the technical aspect but it is rather wise to postpone the purchase in anticipation of opening the platform up to MyTomTom day.
