Andrei Chikatilo, the "Monster of Rostov" is considered the most infamous serial killer of russichen criminal history. What his case so special, is the fact that an effective investigation into the former Soviet Union has long been prevented by political authorities. Since serial killers were considered "capitalist phenomenon", prevented Party and KGB effective public investigation and cooperation with the FBI profilers. Instead, they focused on the persecution of homosexuals, although there were both boys and girls under Chikatilos victims. Even when Chikatilo was arrested once, when he was a girl approached, he was released under pressure from the local party leadership again, since he is a "good party member" was. One can only guess how many victims of this government cover-up fell victim until Chikatilo was finally caught and executed after the political changes in the USSR. Citizen X is a very intelligent and exciting made film, which constructed the hunt for the serial killer very realistic from the perspective of the investigators. Hero of the film is the investigator Buchanow that drives the case against all odds over the years and eventually arrested Chikatilo. He is supported by only his immediate superior and a psychologist who authored an offender profile over the unknown killer "citizen X" due to the circumstances surrounding them. What I liked especially is the factual and little sensationalist directed by Stephen Frea. In bloody scenes of violence is largely dispensed with, instead of the film derives its intensity from the silent terror that affects the investigators considering getting new bodies. Also, the offender is not represented as beast, but as disturbed and driven man. Outstanding course Schaupieler (known to us especially Donald Sutherland and Max von Sydow). Conclusion: Not to be missed. The film manages to really convey the oppressive fear that there must have been at that time in Rostov.
