Well, that have largely passed and strictly facing the hard-rock band from crossover craft their successful debut "Infest", should be known for now 11 years. Less rap influences, targeted guttural Screaming (sing-shouts), melodic harmonies in the music, but this can in no way become less hardness and speed. In short, Papa Roach are (hard) -rockiger and live-compatible become over the years. So much for the framework program.
"FEAR" stings from the start with hard drums, distorted bass and aggressive guitar out. Reinzuplatzen the perfect foundation for Jacoby Shaddix full vocal use and fill the musical space. Technically wonderful as Coby knows how to use his voice as an instrument. In the verses usually an aggressive basic tenor, which opens with the Bridge to liberation scream and culminates in catchy, almost slogans liable choruses. All milled its way into the ear canal as one would expect from Papa Roach and why the fan is accessing unseen repeatedly.
As with other musicians and bands everyday situations are dealt with, so little content innovative. But (!) Papa Roach treat them with less wailing, for more resistance and belligerence. "Love me 'till it hurts" enticed to kitsch, but drifts narrowly past it because it goes straight. There is a tendency on the one hand to think and empathize, on the other hand you grinning to himself and yells out the frustration instead.
Pleasing are the 2 announced feature songs. Unsurprisingly, that Maria Brink (of "In This Moment") stops by on a guest performance as it already served as the opening act. For more poignant when Coby enters the rap mode, proving that he still can and his opposite reflections raises his head and reveals his vulnerable side. A lovesick duet with a difference. Both yell at break (technically terrific when the voice breaks targeted!) In her voice, only to ultimately determine that they were probably free without the other .... heartbreaking in its brutal nudity and also my highlight on the plate.
The second feature announces Royce da 5'9 '' and I as a rap fan still feverish his part opposed to "Warriors". Royce (aka Eminem-mate and "Slaughterhouse" part) may be technically much, however, be limited to verse 4 bars, ie lines. That is too little and therefore, unfortunately, far too general and therefore meaningless for a rapper. As would definitely have to come more, if such a technology-caliber pure looks. Had anyway pleased me personally.
When the grenades storm has passed, you are left with 3 issues
First, a very solid album, but there is little hang out "Cheer up, show teeth and get through".
Secondly, again hear! And work backwards through their discography to determine that content happens nothing new and has been partially implemented even better.
Thirdly: what to do with the energy recovered?
One thing is for sure, the Papa Roach fan is operated.
Conclusion: nothing new but still an above-average production, that one is forced to listen and has to hear the disc in its entirety. Great feature with Maria Brink, insignificant mediocrity with Royce da 5'9 '' and hope that Papa Roach in future allow more features and Coby again rapping a bit more because it works.
