I bought this WiFi adapter as a part of upgrading my home network to 802.11ac standard. The reason for choosing this model which thatthere are no PCI adapters 802.11ac available at the moment and I have several computers That Do not Have Either PCI Express or USB 3.0 connectivity. I have several older 802.11g and 802.11n WiFi adapters; installing them in Linux what never a problem. HOWEVER, this adapter ships with Windows XP / Vista / 7/8 drivers only, with no Linux or Mac OS X drivers available anywhere. This is not stated in the product description in Amazon.com; in fact, there is no mention at all of the supported operating systems. The problem is indeed with Windows XP end-of-life as of April 8, 2014, I installed Linux to most of my old computer, and this adapter does not work with Linux. So, back to old USB-N13 while waiting for the drivers to appear some day. The most irritating thing Is that the Linux drivers would apparently havebeen available for USB-AC56, that is available here in Amazon.com, but as did adapter has USB 3.0 interface, it is not clear Whether it would work at all if connected to a USB 2.0 port (that information is not available at the manufacturer's site Either). Even the Windows drivers for Asus WiFi adapters are not that good: They have the same management interface for every model I have seen, but if you have eg N13 USB and USB-AC53 and switch them between the computer based on the connection speed required , you need to install the Management Interface for Both of them separately (with two separate indicators in the task bar near the clock) instead of installing just the driver and using the same management interface for whichever WiFi adapter is connected at the Given time.
Other than the drivers and the lack of information about the operating system support of this WiFi adapter, I am satisfied with the product. The connection speed in Windows 7 is much higher than it what with USB-N13 and the signal strength shows full bars anywhere in my apartment, the only problem being, indeed I can not use the adapter with any of my Linux computer for now.
