Philips BDP7600 3D Blu-ray Player (Full HD, DivX Plus HD, USB 2.0) Silver (Electronics)

Customer Review

For about half a year now I look after a suitable player for me to replace my previous Panasonic BD60.
I wanted to replace the BD60, because this extremely long start and loading times and even with the latest firmware, unfortunately, are very modest with the supported playback formats. Also the DVD upscaling to 1080p are rather modest.
Now since 3 days I have the Philips BDP7600 which has convinced me and I would like to share my impressions.

Attached is the unit via HDMI 1.3a on a Samsung LE40F86BDX, preferences I have essentially left as (upscaling to 1080p auto etc.).
Firmware version is the initial V1.09 (there are currently no update yet).

Image quality:
Blu-Ray 2D: Superb picture, but no noticeable difference to also have excellent picture my old BD60.
Blu-ray 3D: I could not test, because my TV does not support 3D function.
DVD: Very good upscaling, significantly better than that of BD60. However, it is not enough to quite match the excellent predecessor BDP7500, I also had the test.
USB: DivX & MKV (720p / 1080p) tested media, again excellent upscaling. I know just when a 720p MKV medium little difference for 1080p Blu-Ray.
By the way, contrary to the manufacturer specification recognizes the player also my NTFS USB devices (16 GB USB flash drive; 100GB USB disk) easily! However the player when playing video from my 2.5 "USB drive has generated picture loss and the plate did not sound really healthy. I think here at the necessary power supply is lacking. The USB stick was read without difficulty.

Sound:
Connected via an optical cable (for testing purposes via the coaxial connector) to a Denon AVR-2105 AV Receiver. In both excellent sound reproduction (for DVD and Blu-Ray films tested), no noticeable difference to BD60.

Style:
For this price range top quality and workmanship! I have refrained in this price range from the BDP7500 not found a higher quality device and the design is my opinion also very well done. The glossy front, however, is very sensitive and you leave happy times a fingerprint when operating the touch screen panels.

Remote control and menu navigation:
The FB fits comfortably in your hand and the buttons are logically placed and easy to reach. Too bad that Philips decided not to eject button. You have to remain on the Stop button for 5 seconds, so that the disc is ejected. The egg-shaped design of the FB looks anything but elegant. The on-screen menu, however, is very clear and easy to use. A guide is not necessary, all self-explanatory.

Features:
Network & Internet connection:
Apart from the disc and USB playback Philips offers the possibility, via a LAN connection or integrated WLAN (like mine) to access the Internet or home network and its file shares. The IP for the BDP7600 can either enter this manually or automatically select. Both work very easy. The wireless connection was established via WPA password must be entered and the same - pleasing - the reception quality even better as my PC, which is the router in about the same distance.
Also very nice: when times where the player operates differently and then rejoins at home, the network is immediately detected and the IP information + WPA encryption set correctly.
Browse PC:
File sharing was recognized immediately and I was able to play as MP3 files from my PC without any problems with the player. However, I have not tested whether the displayable elements have eventually reached a limit in a shared directory. My directory share was less than 300 files, these were all listed.
Net TV:
The Net TV feature provides the ability to access the Philips proprietary online platform. This offers several apps and a full Internet browser (Opera). However, the Net TV function affects me still very immature. I had several problems to access the feature at all, and some apps do not work or not in full-featured (eg can be the Arte app no films show).
The Switch is also the use of the browser. Until you use the remote control once the URL or search term typed in to Google, you might as well start up his PC. Also very annoying: Your browser does not support Flash video! (The contrast Youtube app works)

Speed:
Simply sensational! The device is started in a few seconds, the drive opens and closes immediately and the load times of DVD and Blu-ray films are measured in seconds. Chapter jumps are also carried out without delay. The reading of DivX and MKV media via USB Flash Drive has taken me longer than 5 consecutive seconds.

Audible noise:
The device has no fan and is not after power and retrieving media via USB or network audible.
Generally, the drive can be heard something during the reading of DVD or Blu-ray media. Compared to its competitors, it is however quite quiet even when reading.
When watching a DVD and also when playing self-burned DVD content, the device in my opinion is virtually inaudible. And I am one of the people who are very sensitive to operating noise (see my review for BDP7500).
When playing Blu-rays (5 different tested) I can hear with a seat pitch of about 3 meters and the sound turned off at the beginning of the film a running noise, but after about 10 minutes of the film goes to zero.

Conclusion:
All in all, this player is a very good product, I can absolutely recommend in this price range.

+ Super Blu-ray image quality
+ Low sound pressure levels
+ Easy to use
+ Good sound
+ Also recognizes NTFS devices
+ Slight Network & Internet connection

o inferior remote with missing Eject button
o 1080p upscaling of DVDs tidy, but could be better

- USB connector makes problems 2.5 "hard drives nonpowered
- Net TV function unripe

Update:
the known problem of the BDP7500 that MKVs can be played with an H264-profile level of the video track remains higher than 4.1.nicht, also made the BDP7600. Remedy it by resetting the video track again at the 4.1 level. A review of the BDP7500 outlines the procedures for very good. Simply the BDP7500 to "MKV H264 profile level" search.
