Yesterday it was time. After this week already the mail came from Amazon that the OEM versions come sooner then came my Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OEM yesterday as promised. Very simply kept in a brown envelope I found 2 DVDs a sticker with serial number and a DVD case with a small starter prospectus for Windows. 7
The DVD is a Windows 7 itself, the other seems to be a version for the PC manufacturer with which they can bring these pre-install on the PC (I guess here you can then already install drivers, etc. before you enter the Key).
So get to work, all the important data backed up to C and inserted the DVD, restart and go. After a few clicks, the hard drive was formatted and already was on Windows7 install. After 15 minutes already demanded then enter name, time zone and serial number. Then a restart and then it was up and running. For me as upgrading from XP directly to Windows 7, it was almost a culture shock. looks so great I thought. So here's a few of my first impressions:
Operation:
Very intuitive. Most of you know already, of course, but also the new things, especially the features of the Aero interface you immediately understood and also quickly grown fond of. Windows 7 presents itself very tidy and you will find everything you could possibly need with a few clicks. Only it bothered me that I had to activate the Execute button only.
Compatibility:
Some important drivers (especially for the WLAN USB Stick) I had already downloaded before reinstalling. For all of my components are already available Windows 7 drivers, so I had absolutely no problems with my connected devices. Everything works fine. Also my favorite applications and games could be installed smoothly. Here the previously tested programs and games:
Office 2003, Avira Antivir, Logitech G15 software, Firefox and Thunderbird, Crysis, Warhammer DoW 2, Anno 1404, GTA IV, the rest I test if I have time, but so far everything Paletti.
Speed:
Very good. Nothing is delayed, the beautiful glass effects and animations when moving and opening, closing work perfectly and smoothly the window. In Firefox, the web pages opened felt significantly faster than under Windows XP.
In the games I noticed no big difference. Everything still liquid. However, the load times have become shorter.
Overall impression:
I was never a fan of Windows and have it to the Mac so far only brought forward as I am an avid player and most games just run only on Windows.
But now with this very mature acting product has me convinced Microsoft that my money was finally invested properly.
This review is by the way only my first impression after a day of use constitutes and appoints no means exhaustive.
