First (and, unfortunately, 2nd) impression: zwiegespalten

Haptics & Size: 5 stars
The new tablet made by Google. The size of 8.9 inches is a nice compromise between the old Nexus 7 and 10. The back is made of a material similar to the Nexus 7 Softgrip plastic. Feels relatively well! The processing of the device is absolutely no complaints at least in my case. It cracks and creaks nothing. The aluminum frame evaluates the unit on again and leaves a good impression 1ten. In weight, it is still a familiarization because it's considerably heavier than my current daily tablet Nexus 7. But I get used to it already. The circulating on the Internet problems with halos or Clowding I can not confirm with my device. A small drawback is, I think the power button, this is placed a bit too far in the case. The volume keys are clearly better processed and the pressure points are quite good.

Software & Performance: 3 stars
It is finally here ... Lollipop! The latest Android version, and yes, it is at first a conversion. The design has changed my mind radically. But this way, in many cases for the better. The new Notification bar is really well done and also otherwise most of the changes are an improvement. How do the new features such as the new Battery Saving Mode in everyday life suggests is still submitted as test after just 2 days and play no proper statement can be made.
The performance is at the moment (at least this is my personal opinion) rather sobering.
The device has been described as a beast and this is not really in my opinion too. Do not misunderstand, the device is anything but slow but compared to the Nexus 7 I can here find no significant difference. Negative falls on most of all: Are many apps open in the background and the Home Screen opens it needs felt from one second to the home screen again completely aufbaut.Ich think that in this case software update by Google will help.
A nice feature is the rest of the Double Tap to Wake. I find a class extension.

Display & Battery: 1 Star
For me, this is unfortunately the biggest disappointment. Yes, the resolution has been raised, however, the display diagonal. And here I have to say clearly that strikes me the display of the Nexus 7 much better and sharper and also is. Again, you have to say again, it is by far not a bad display, and one might say, is this is bleating at a high level. I think if you have not just devices with FHD resolution (Nexus 7/7-inch) off the mark, there is a perfectly good display. The viewing angles are, however, better than my reference device truly outstanding and in this case. The maximum brightness is alright.
* Update * Compared with the Nexus 7, the display is not really white but rather has a yellowish tinge. The brightness is but in my opinion pretty neat. It radiates formally!
From the battery, I would like here not comment directly, because the device has been once fully charged.

* Update * For the 2nd time I shop now could reach a DOT of about 4 1/2 hours. This value is okay ... but not more! Once here there are new findings, I will adjust the review!

** Update from 11.11.2014: Now I am concerned with the replacement also from clouding and must make it clear that HTC really needs to make improvements here! This workmanship are absolutely unacceptable! And certainly not for the asking price!

Speakers & Camera: 4 stars
The speakers are typical HTC-an absolute stunner. Very loud and clear. However, one should not deal with the full volume as the Speaker to clink start otherwise.
The camera is told honestly not quite as important in a tablet. I actually do little pictures with a tablet, but from the pure specifications, the camera seems to be better than average. A novelty here is the LED flash. From the illumination is not bad but of course no comparison to a reasonable DSLR.

Problems: autorotation / Clouding
The fault was clearly on the G-sensor. The equipment has been replaced by Amazon without any problems! How it's just come to expect from Amazon! Thanks for that.
Now, in the replacement I am unfortunately also affected by the so-called clouding and must clearly say is that even not at all! The unit goes back and it is waiting for a new batch. What HTC allowed here, for the called price of 400, is simply a joke!

Preliminary judgment: Much potential for / As long as the processing defects are not corrected: Stay away!
A BUY recommendation I will not speak at the moment. For that I have my device definitely not be able to test enough. Furthermore, Google must necessarily work on the performance. This is a maximum to settle in the upper middle class! And let's face it are almost 400 then too expensive!
The autorotation problem has now been done (replacement) but now I could Clouding also relive the own device! Would there be a Dislike button, he would have been operated now! - * See Updates *

* Update from 08/11/2014: I will send the unit back today on Amazon or let it exchange. The error with the G sensor is so annoying, I've decided to let replace the Nexus. For me are the 400 defnitiv too much, as that I could live with such a failure! *

** Update from 11:11 .: Also the 2nd unit is sent back! The Clouding is absolutely unacceptable for a premium device. I'm going to wait and see and wait for a 2nd batch! Until then, I have to correct the rating to one star down forced moderation!
