- Write rate: 486 MB / s
- Reading rate: 487 MB / s
- Temperature: between about 38.5 ° C (Idle) and 39 ° C (a few hours)
I tested with CrystalDiskMark and Speccy.
The speed advantage over HDD is noticeable especially at startup, for installation of software of any kind, while copying a single large file and program starts. For me personally, the SSD is also programming a profit, because I have too many applications running at the same time and must compile program code often. Because the work makes a lot more fun than on a HDD that at a size of 2.5 due to the high speed "- anyway are often even slower than 3.5 - as they are standard in notebooks" HDDs.
A pity, I find that the delivery came with no M2 screw for fastening. It is the first mSATA SSD, which I bought. Therefore, I did not know that this is so common in mSATA SSDs. My laptop was such a screw even at, so I had to get that extra.
Anyone buying the SSD, should examine the set played firmware version right after installation of the operating system. The 840 series is in fact affected by a bug which can reduce the reading rate in older files to less than 30 MB / s. The firmware version can z. B. with the Samsung Magician software (Windows only) are checked. If there is an older firmware (version EXT41B6Q), you should upgrade to the Samsung SSD 840 EVO Performance Restoration Software to version EXT0CB6Q which (not) fixes this bug.
UPDATE: It is now known that the firmware EXT0CB6Q this bug but does not resolve. My satisfaction with the SSD is completely gone. About Samsung Magician you have now again to download a new firmware version, which according to Samsung really resolve the issue. But this I can absolutely not recommended, as this firmware provides no reasonable solution to the problem. Why? The new firmware provides only that old files are refreshed regularly (by rewriting the files). This is for the life of the SSD of course very disadvantageous. Either Samsung brings a reasonable solution or the SSD must be replaced in the long run against another.
