We will follow an investigation with the main character who nome Jim Brodie. This is a great expert on Japanese culture but it is not Japanese. He lives in San Francisco with her 6 year old daughter. His wife died. It will be called to come to a morbid investigation with a massacre of a Japanese family: parents, their two young children and their knowledge. Right in Japantown. As the only clue, they just have a "Kanji" with their provisions (in the form there on the cover). And coincidentally, in the murder of his wife, exactly the same Kanji. Survey who had accomplished nothing at the time of the crime. And now all over again but this time with a much higher murder, several years later. The story is written in first person. I love this style of writing because I think we will put more into the skin of the character, and it is endearing, suddenly. The pace is always present. It's like Dan Brown, if I may say. Short chapters with always intrigue tip end of the chapter. The investigation is awfully great to watch! From North America to Japan, you meet a bunch of people who are mastered to perfection. It's like a great thriller. It will be several deadly revenge for a bunch of people including Jim and his new teammates team. We can also learn a lot of things about Japanese culture (the author lived there for 30 years) as Japanese words with the French translation also brackets and italics, legends and famous writing Kanji. As you must realize, this element will be important during playback. We are told this very vast writing that consists of thousands of symbols and how to recognize them with their old formulas. But that Kanji will be tough since it is known to any dictionary or other register. It's like finding a needle in a haystack. But to discover clues and that means this symbol, Jim is going to be a team and in correspondence of several people in the police, investigators, computer, agents ... But not that! In the other side, and as the matter became known by the media and the press, "celebrities" not well known will also come to see Jim. But not just any. There will be sacred heads in the lot and not tenders people. The more we advance in the course, the task is more complicated seriously. Between all that and the pitfalls that come directly to Jim or his daughter, still more fearful, it will not be tender. The troop of people who are in this story and want revenge are real ninjas. When they attack, it is always with the utmost discretion. Even in a place where there in crowd, they are not afraid. Always on the attack. And still no evidence they leave. They are predators. They equipped the new technologies. They have a huge intelligence. And above all, Jim will have to team up with some people, but how can you trust when everyone seems to be in on it? By reading it, you will see that this is so exciting story and controlled from A to Z! You know the taste of good food? Well Japantown can be served in gourmet platter. All the best ingredients to provide a small pad of 500 pages where each page are hanging. And the end, wahouh! It is not at all done in a hurry and it sends mash !! Good twists. As I said throughout my criticism, this book was written by master hands. I read in full novels and good, but from memory I ever been so glued to a book. I could no longer detached in me.
I had the pleasant surprise to see that in America, a Volume 2 was released September 9, 2014, again with Jim Brodie. That means we will have further investigations with this character and given the impressive quality of this first volume, that this is not a "one shot" (in one volume), I'm really happy !! Deeply its release !!
