I am not a professional film producer, but only someone of his motorcycle tours, vacations and snorkelling trips in their free time would hold on video. For this I find a Full HD resolution as absolutely sufficient.
I have now occupied me for about 2 months intensively with many tests and Verlgeichsvideos for Sony and Hero GoPro 4 Silver and have tested and evaluated both models home.
This review therefore refers to the direct comparison between the two competitors.
Both cameras were tested with a SanDisk Extreme 64 gigabytes (SDSQXN-064G, Extreme). This has been recognized by both cameras right away and worked flawlessly.
On the AS100V the latest firmware 2.0 was already installed, the GoPro has also been updated prior to testing to the latest version.
Scope of supply:
The scope of delivery is almost identical for both cameras:
- The camera itself
- A battery
- A USB connection cable (for charging the battery and for transmitting the data to the PC)
- Adhesive pads (one bent and one straight)
- Holders (The GoPro is still a modular bracket included which the attachment at 90 ° angle or allowed)
- The Virtual Remote (Only for the Sony, stands out positively)
- The manuals
- Sticker
First impression and obvious differences:
Both cameras and accessories are very well made.
First of all, the two cameras differ in their design. The GoPro comes in landscape mode, the Sony, however, in the classic style CamCorder.
The eineige brings advantages and disadvantages with it:
The Sony is aerodynamic and also to keep no case well in the Had (just like a camcorder), the need GoPro you somehow between the finger terminals (this problem can be solved with the wide range of accessories from the GoPro fundus, but this costs money and drives the already high price of the GoPro further into the air.).
In addition, Sony is already protected in the initial stage -So without Case- before dust and splash, the GoPro is not.
When Sony stereo microphone is built which is forward, ie parallel to the lens aligned. When Hero 4 Silver Edition the monaural microphone is mounted on top of the case.
If you want to connect the USB cable to the two cameras, it is noticeable that the Sony has an input for an external microphone while the GoPro does not provide this connection. When Sony covers all the little plastic part at the GoPro, however, are again secured to the housing, not making it an ideal candidate for carelessness quickly lost.
Establishment / operation:
The first device went with two cameras easily by hand. In many tests will be talked about the cryptic Abklürzungen on the display of the Sony, but I had no problems as a loan.
Very good work to operate the AS 100 V with the supplied Virtual Remote. With this you can control the subject and start the recording and stop, set the video mode, and switch between photo, video and time lapse.
The GoPro Hero 4 Silver convinced themselves with a built-in touch screen. This lets you make all the settings. Videos can be viewed and deleted, and all of the camera settings can also be customized. The touch detection worked here ever properly.
The problem with touch dispaly is that I have to be located behind the GoPro to use this, this is not always the case, especially if you have fixed the camera, for example, at the helm. With the Remote from Sony you're much more flexible here. Mir is also unclear why GoPro not also serving as a leader with a remote viewfinder.
Both cameras have an app for the smartphone and a Computerprgramm for cutting and creating videos. At GoPro, this GoPro Studio, Sony christened their software PlayMemories Home.
Viedoqualität:
1) colors
In this theme are the ghosts and I tuhe here very difficult to make a definitive judgment.
First of all, the following must be said: The Sony has 2 color modes: 1. ViVid and 2 neutral.
I prefer ViVid because the colors are much livelier here. The neutral mode is probably intended for people who edit and optimize the colors at home on the computer.
I am writing this because the Sony is set to "Neutral" in many videos, which are distributed over the Internet and the colors look pale accordingly. This distorts my opinion the Verlgeichbarkeit with the GoPro, which then of course has the more vibrant colors. The Vivid mode (vibrant colors), has consistently more convinced me that Sony through their better color fidelity.
Even in twilight and low light conditions, the Sony convinced consistently.
The point color fidelity so goes to the Sony.
2) Focus
Here the Hero scores 4 Silver with narrow lead. It offers throughout the sharper image and plays its strength from.
However, this difference is really only noticing when viewed next to each other directly, a comparison of the two video cameras. The Sony also has a very sharp image.
Curt point for GoPro
3) image stability
In direct comparison, I realized how important this feature is for me personally. I want especially to run on a holiday once on the plant, the beach or the boat and catch impressions. What's really unpleasant struck at the GoPro that movements are not balanced. It is enough already from when I normally go up and down the street. When Sony image lbliebt contrast pleasantly quiet.
This is not a problem if you mounted the camera to a helmet or body, since the body absorbs much of the vibration. If the camera is however held in the hand or attached to the motorcycle itself, this falls on unpleasant.
Even a very sharp image is useful to me relatively little if it is blurred.
Crisp Point for Sony.
4) Audio Quality
First of all, it was noted that both cameras are highly susceptible to wind noise.
While the GoPro is has a mono microphone 100 V installed a stereo microphone in the Sony AS.
Here the point is quite kloar to Sony, who recorded her tone is consistently clear and louder than the Hero 4 Silver.
Crisp Point for Sony.
5) battery life
The GoPro Hero 4 Silver battery held in shooting mode 1080p at 30 fps for about 2 hours before the camera abschaltete (The touch display here was turned off). The Sony held in the same mode for about 2 hours and 30 minutes.
However, everyone should find a way within two hours to insert a spare battery.
Curt point for Sony.
6) Accessories and Mounts
The accessories of the GoPro is undoubtedly the best and most varied currently. The mounts and pads are all very well made and available in countless variations and from a variety of manufacturers.
However, this accessory can also be used with the Sony, there are adapters with which one can use the Sony camera with the GoPro accessories.
Crisp Point to the GoPro.
Conclusion:
Thus, it is 4 to 2 for Sony and this is my opinion, rightly so. Referring nor the pricing of GoPro with a that Sony is even the more favorable of the two camera.
The Sony AS 100 V has been Warentest Stiftung also test winners. Both cameras are very good and suitable for action-packed scenes capture, but convinced me that Sony more. In particular, the image stabilization is a feature that I do not want to miss!
GPS I need not force, but is a nice addition to around one to play with or display speed.
In addition, the Sony is less susceptible to wind at high speeds of 160 km / h or more.
