Housing and handling:
Watching the little black box on, so he acts first not very handy. The gripping bead is quite small, the case looks smooth and overall it is still very compact. But with a handle you will be pleasantly surprised. Even with very large hands, you can still keep very good. The gripping bead fits quite well in the hand and the thumb has access to all buttons. The weight with a standard μFT lens allows the camera to feel good, and you never get the feeling they would a slip. With an adapted 12-60mm FT for the course looks different. As you hold the lens rather than the housing.
Operation:
With one hand everything is set. Some say that the menu is structured cumbersome. But I have no problems. Probably because it has never really changed since the E-1.
The buttons can be operated at all well, only the second dial is somewhat poorly positioned. Here the dial simultaneously forms also four buttons and the menu Cross. If you want to turn the wheel, it is not uncommon that you suddenly for example in the ISO menu lands and adjusted this. The pressure point of the cross is therefore not very good. Otherwise, everything is other as if by itself.
"Finder" and image quality:
The E-P2 has no built-in viewfinder. For many, this is a KO criterion. I personally do not understand what it is supposed to be bad. I have the greatest finder of all, and that is the monitor! Optionally, you can also on the accessory shoe Attach a viewfinder (VF-2). The monitor is otherwise very good. Crisp colors, sharp contrast and bright enough even in bright sunlight. The viewfinder makes it easy to focus manually from the hand. The size is the current maximum of 3 inches. (Maximum why otherwise would again grow the cameras, as well as the mobile phones these days)
The image quality always depends on the lens. They know that as a photographer and should heed the well. This wisdom is one of the reasons why I ended up at Olympus. The sensor itself supplies the resulting profit. In practical terms, the usable ISO performance of the E-P2 is achieved ISO 1000. In lost details and it roars yet visible. For me personally, I never reach this limit, however, so I'm now no more worrying about ISO numbers.
Image quality benefits, is not as long shoot in RAW, also of the internal signal processing. That is, the camera shoots in RAW format and to "develop" the image internally to a compressed JPG. The fail each camera, but the E-P2 If this already! I've actually never been photographed so without hesitation in JPG format. The results are all first class!
Special features:
The accessory shoe is virtually Olympus` Scion they also like to mention again and praise about great. I mean, here still so much to come. Currently there are an electronic viewfinder, a microphone (or its adapter) and so-called macro-arm lights. The latter is hanging by LEDs at two flexible arms, provide more light with macros. A sharp idea! The shoe thus provides us with a partially modular system ... at least when there's the choice is increased.
Otherwise, Olympus also provides the E-P2 all the innovations that has ever introduced the house. Among the image stabilizer on the sensor and the fantastic dust remover called SSWF.
Otherwise, the camera feels as if it were made of pure steel, although it is not quite sure.
Conclusion:
Olympus has brought an orderly development of the E-P1 out with the E-P2. They are similar but much to the basic data and the accessory shoe. Thus, the E-P2 is just faster, faster and faster!
For compact camera owners the E-P2 offers incredible image quality on minimal space and at a decent price. All DSLR owners are in their easy and cheap alternative look at the still delivers the same image quality.
For both camps, it may be worth it. For me, it has long since paid off and I am happy that Olympus has developed this system. Otherwise, I would have still towed by four times the weight!
