The first thing that is noticed (or not for that matter) is the numbering of the pages in reverse (the last page of the book is numbered 0). This allows the reader to share the fate of the horde as they advance towards their goal, we get closer to the last page.
The other feature of the story is the way it is told. Each section is preceded by a symbol mark of recognition of a member of the horde, the narrator announces that the paragraph in question. We can know the worldview of each character (each with a clearly defined role within the group).
Finally the last highlight of the text is its shape. Damasio has managed a feat by successfully write the wind with punctuation. Throughout the book we have the right to puns (or rather, word games) with impressive virtuosity that energizes the history and avoids the monotony in which it would have been easy to fall.
Good luck to hypothetical translators who would rub this text.
