Customer Review

This volume contains episodes 26-30 of the series, and the special issue devoted to Poyo, all published in 2012. All scenarios are John Layman, and illustrations and colors of Rob Guillory. This volume follows Major League (episodes 21-25).

It starts with a sale to masters paintings auction ... well a particular teacher named Quindim Buongiovanni (a sabopictor) whose paintings interest 2 chefs (Cremini Barnabas and Chow Chu). It continues with Toni Chu conducting a survey on behalf of Chow Chu. Then it comes psychotropic frogs (when the licks, we leave for a long journey whose nature depends on the color of their skin). The story then moves to the relationship between Toni Chu (Antonelle his real name, and cibovoyante on behalf of NASA) and Paneer Sharma (his chief in the NASA). As an interlude, the reader follows several missions Poyo (a rooster with cybernetic implants that make him a formidable fighting cyborg), from Hell to a flock of rain. Then comes the moment of the fashion show with clothes made from meat and fish meat. Only the combined forces of Toni Chu, Caesar Valenzano, John Colby and Tony Chu (in his wheelchair) can overcome all the mysteries.

The first episode is an opportunity to tell a story in No. 1, with 2 new supernatural powers derived from the sense of taste. Layman and Guillory are again raging: the powers are funny, comic exaggeration is at the rendezvous, the scenario holds up the first degree. They continue to play with the recurring image of two lovers in a bed under the sheet to the top, this time it's the turn of Toni Chew, and the result is always as tasty with more feelings for John Colby. Is the cumulative effect of five previous volumes, or improvement of the sensitivity of John Layman? Still, the personality of each spring protagonists better, starting with Toni and Chow.

Then the account goes into the thick of it. The reader is pleased to discover that somewhat artificial appearance of a new power or 2 by volume are fully justified by the narrative; it's just not a big string. The addition of psychedelic Amazonian frogs fits perfectly with the series of environment, and just explain the rather daring color of the cover (it should be noted that Guillory makes himself the color layout). Decidedly, Toni Chu takes shape to become one of the most attractive characters of the series, and warm. In addition D-Bear (Deshawn Berry) makes a new appearance with its permanent and its pretty big afro comb through the hair. As usual Guillory find a balance between the recovery of visual clichés reminiscent of blaxploitation and exaggeration making very expressive and totally unique character.

It was at that moment that Layman and Guillory completed the conquest of their drive with the special issue devoted to the exploits of Poyo. It is impossible to believe in the credibility of this volatile cyborg without reading the series. Yes, it is indeed a fighting cock that derusted in a match, which was operated by a team of scientists who have grafted him cybernetic implants. Yes, it's completely delusional. Yes, it fits perfectly with the rest of the story. In this episode, Layman and Guillory can increase the humorous component to the beautiful place on the absurd. This is huge from the beginning to the end. It starts with sheep from the rain, taking the first degree the expression "It's rainning cats and dogs" (it rains halberds) and exaggerating it to a magnificent absurd effect. They manage to keep the pace and tone from beginning to end of the episode.

The transition with the following 3 episodes quite naturally through the fashion show, with food based clothes, not so far from reality that it (remember the steaks dress worn by Lady Gaga, authentic) . Layman and Guillory decrease the level of absurdity to increase the development of the plot, while retaining the part devoted to the personality of each. The player gets some meaningful information about this vampire story, and its objectives. The suspense intensifies gradually lead to ... a moment of the most intense and most addictive series. Layman wrote scenes where various characters discovered until an encore. The reader can then appreciate the ability to Guillory to give everyone a specific appearance as they return all remember easily. The humor mixes with drama from one page to another, sometimes on the same page, and sometimes in the same box, without neutralizing. This is certainly a moment among the most difficult to achieve than to mix very dark and tragic humor, by raising these two opposite emotions simultaneously in the reader: empathy for the drama knotting, and smile at the enormity of what is drawn. Guillory also likes to add humorous messages on signs sporadically. This device is fun, but it still lacks a little intensity (far sarcastic comments and villains Kevin O'Neill in Marshal Law).

In the previous volume, Layman and Guillory had already achieved the balance that was sometimes lacking in their previous volumes in the series between quirky and absurd humor, intrigue and well-structured and full of suspense. With this volume, they retain this narration by intensifying each component for exceptional reading. Remember your beets, you'll need it.
