For compact cameras (I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7) the optimal mini tripod. Can remain on the camera is expanded quickly and keeps the camera reliably and stably. The rubber at the end of the feet provides extra support and also when taking out of your hand does not interfere with the mounted mini tripod; even if it's in the Lumix because the central tripod thread of the camera sideways slightly (8 mm) protrudes. With very tight camera cases it could thus give but problems!

Update 2014-11-29: The Sony RX 100 and the Sony HX60 the battery compartment and no longer freely accessible on a mounted mini tripod. The lid of the battery compartment can not be completely open so that the Mini stand has to be removed for a battery or memory card is inserted. Poor performance of Sony to place the tripod socket so close to the lid of the battery compartment!
