The stand looks exactly like the picture. It fits in not only the iPad Mini, but also my smartphone. Plastic odor had my not.
What you should keep in mind though is that you can put in the stand the devices with charging cable only horizontally. Vertical (ie with connection downwards) is the iPad on the plug, instead of the stand.
