Philips SHB9150BK / 00 Wireless On-Ear Bluetooth Headset (Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, NFC, digital sound enhancement) (Electronics)

Customer Review

A 3-star rating like the attribute "good" in the title may seem harsh, but I was annoyed when testing the headphones too much about some things than I could in good conscience give 4 or even 5 stars.
Also, I will return the headphones after exactly one day of testing.
But first things first, but be careful: I write in great detail ;-)

I ordered the Philips SBH9150BK / 00, so the upgraded model of 2014 NFC.
I had decided on the white model, partly because my white headphones mostly liked better because they are more conspicuous, but because I thought the others to me that the white head padding of the black model with daily use certainly not nearly as nice white remains and is on the black plastic fingerprints and scratches much more than looks on white plastic.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First of all, the general appearance and feel of the headphones:

The design appealed to me in the pictures quite well, and these show the headphones very nature faithfully. What the images are however not reveal the quality of materials and processing, and of course the feel of upholstery and controls.
With the handset until the lying in the bow metal bar made entirely of plastic, and for me for no particular quality. But is ok, the function does not detract first times.
The surface is very shiny, which will probably sooner or later lead to significant scratches.
Fits to the size of the strap and pulls a clam down a bit, you will find some sharp edges, as where the plastic sheath of the strap ends.
The two shells can be rotated 90 degrees to the front, that is, if you have the phone hanging around his neck showing the cushion forward. I previously knew only the other way around.
This makes the handset at least quite flat.
The rotation function is, at least initially, a little heavier than normal, what I really really like is there that can then not quite happen of its own accord in his pocket.
I'm missing for a mobile headset, however, the possibility of folding the mussels.

The keys of the headset are the first reason why I pull a star:

How have written before me some reviewers, is the large central button, which takes up the entire outer surface of the right shell, incredibly easy.
At every step you can hear the key jiggling, absolutely annoying while jogging.
If you rumklopft with your finger on the button, you can hear a very high, almost metallic "clink", probably the spring mounting of something like that or key.
That you'll hear when you press the button.
The pressure point of the button is unfortunately also not really good, also has been written by others.
The rocker switch for volume up volume down front-back is quite ok with me she has only now and then clamped the volume up.
One more note about this: a song before or to jump back you have to push in the rocker switch, ie for 1x and 2x front for back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Bluetooth function:

Pairing with an iPhone 5 went really easily, right out of the box.
Long press the central button, locate and connect -> completed
When iPad as well.

Unfortunately, you can not change the volume of the connected Apple devices, but only the natural volume of the headphones with the volume buttons.
May perhaps be an advantage for many a, I do not like it.
The fact that Siri can not activate a button on the headphones, I see as wasted potential. That would really not have been difficult.
It is also a pity that the battery level of the headset is not displayed on the connected Apple device.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For comfort:

I am when it comes to comfort, not really a fan of on-ear headphones, because it simply presses always eventually too strong to me.
I prefer in this respect definitely over-ear.
Nevertheless, I must say that these headphones is relatively easy for me to wear. The ear cushions are soft, the headset is easy and the contact pressure is not very high.
It is through the latter slips the listener rather quickly from my mind, unfortunately, almost by itself, if I'm just a little bend forward.
The smooth upholstery, especially the pillow top of the bracket, contribute.
For physical activities of headphones is therefore only of limited use.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For sound, and that is the reason for the 2nd stage trigger:

The purpose of this headset is the wireless play music from the iPhone for me quite clearly. The headset function I'm more or less never need (I have not even tested) and a cable I do not want to connect.

Of course I coupled it out of the box with the phone and pressed play, but was a bit disappointed immediately.
The sound is very thin over Bluetooth, basses are barely perceptible.
Balanced he is well, but just too pale.

As in another review (of Depechie, very good by the way) it was mentioned that the sound cable is much better, I once made a good Aux cable from me (not enclosed) and was actually first speechless suddenly good sound quality.
Significantly more bass, but never exaggerated, still very balanced.
For me as a hi-lay a rather warm sound, in which crisp highs (eg sibilance or snares / pool) are not painful reproduced shrill.

In short: with cable much better than Bluetooth, and so for me the KO for these headphones,
because I did not buy this, then but to hang him on a cable, then I do not need all the bells and whistles Bluetooth.
Since there is then better for less money.

A further point of criticism is the very poor acoustic seal the mussels, both externally and internally.
When I hear the music in the correct volume for me (about 60-70% of the iPhone), it's too loud for every person sitting next to bus and train, there really much sound is emitted to the outside.
In order to use for the road is limited.
Inside the headphones from seals also not good, but I did not think so bad.
For in-ears bothers me often that you will notice acoustically from the outside world so much less, which can be dangerous.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conclusion:

+ Visually appealing, good design
+ Simple pairing via Bluetooth
+ For on-ear high wearing comfort
+ Light weight
+ With cable very good, balanced sound

- Cheap-looking plastic
- Very poor central button (on / off / start / stop / call answering)
- Volume of headphone itself only adjustable, not of materiel
- Poor acoustic seal
- Very thin sound over Bluetooth
- No secure hold on the head

A headset that can offer good sound, but does not react via Bluetooth.
This unfortunately shot over the goal.
Who can do without the Bluetooth function, which should look for another model actually.
Who does not want getting the Philips SBH9150 a lightweight, comfortable to wear headphones which convinces with beautiful appearance and provides both rather poor sound over Bluetooth as well as very good sound cable.

What I have not tested the headset function and battery life in Bluetooth operation, but there was already a lot of comments about in other reviews.
Also the NFC feature I can not say anything, since Apple unfortunately has this in any of their devices. But the coupling works so well so properly.

I hope I could help some in their purchasing decision.
