Raven - Blood Eye is the debut novel by Giles Kristian and the first part of a multipart saga. Kristian started his career as a singer in the boy band Upside Down. As he writes in the preface, however, he has long felt the fabric of this Viking story in itself, especially since he attributes his ancestors on Nordic immigrants. But now the story itself: The young Englishman Osric is kidnapped and survived, because he has a bloodshot eye and how suddenly speaking through a miracle the Nordic language, so look at it the Vikings to incarnation of Odin in a raid of the Vikings from his village. As a result, he took part in their journeys and adventures and is growing into the Community of the Northmen into it. The whole plot is in the process and also of the details quite consistent, but often lack the real surprise and the fine characterization. Much remains predictable and somewhat simplistically, as it is encountered frequently in early works. On a par with Bernard Cornwell can therefore not make Kristian (yet), there simply is pending the finishing touches and the experience of a life's work. But Raven is a thoroughly recommended reading for those interested in historical novels and light fare for passing, at least if you do not have too weak stomach, because blood is not saved. To correct Page Turner, one can not put it down until the end, it was enough for me but not quite.
