The image stabilization works very well. The recordings of Zx5 are verwacklungsfreier as the recordings are made the Zx1, especially when filming on the move. This is a clear advantage.
The operation is a matter of taste. The Zx5 offers more settings, however, are presented in the description of the camera and to which I will not go into further. As I switch quickly between shooting modes like me the Zx1 is here dear, I have to do that in no menu, but can switch directly by pressing a button.
The display of Zx5 is larger and easier to see than the Zx1. The "red light" during recording can not be at the Zx5 off in the Zx1.
The sound is on both cameras equivalent (mono) and well, the Zx5 allows a manual level adjustment which with loud Umgebeung (or concert recordings) certainly has a clear advantage. The shooting in dark places were slightly better than the Zx1 in Zx5. The zoom (depending only electronically) is much better than with the Zx1 in Zx5. The latter does not allow jumpy Zoom, the ZX5 zooms liquid.
However, the operation in practice is simple and unproblematic both cameras. Switching on and off.
Now, however, the things that have led me to return the camera:
- The battery of Zx5 is permanently installed and can not be change. When in the mountains ;-) I'm on long trips (the road, it is possible with the ZX1, replace the battery (empty) with a full. That does not go with the Zx5. This will certainly not interfere with the party filmmakers, because it can recharge the battery "fast" (4h), but on vacation with many on and off - circuits and a day trip, it may be tight and because the Zx5 to me is "uncertain".
The main (negative) argument for me, however, is the comparison of image quality.
The direct comparison of 720p recording the ZX1 with the ZX5 showed in Zx5 clear and really striking shortcomings: striking artifacts (Glötzchen) are much lower with the same motif in the Zx1. The picture is slightly washed out in distant subjects when the Zx5. In direct comparison, faces and license plates in the background at the Zx1 were clearly visible and without artifacts that Zx5 but has already geschwächelt here. I suspect this has to do with the image quality of the image stabilization of Zx5 because the image (probably) will cut something to be expected "wobble-free". (The films is between the viewfinder image and the real scene always a small time offset)
The 1080p recordings of Zx5 are better, especially more distant motifs are sharper than the Zx1 (720p), but not so serious and the file size is naturally higher in 1080p recordings. The difference is not so shows its flavor, as I had hoped.
In 720p mode, the Zx5 is wide-angle than the Zx1. In 1080p mode, however, this advantage is canceled Wide and then corresponds to the Zx1.
Conclusion. The Zx5 is robust, easy to use, like small wobbles good, Zooms liquid and has at 1080p (and in Macro mode), a (very) good picture. The 720p mode, however, is poor in comparison with the "Altmodell" Kodak Zx1. This is the Zx5 Waterproof, makes a robust impression and seems well made, is positive.
If the Zx5 is "eventually" fallen to the current level of prices of the Zx1 (48 euro), then I will certainly again weak and reach for Zx5. Currently, however, not "worth" for me the switch, since only in 1080p mode, the picture is better than the Zx1, but the file size appreciably larger. For those who want to film in 1080p mode "only" that Zx5 is a good choice.
