Many buyers of UHD monitors assume that the DP Cable DisplayPort 1.2 must be certified, this is wrong.
The Explanation:
To operate a UHD monitor via DP, must support both the monitor and the graphics card DisplayPort 1.2. Since this implementation level prescribed by the MST must be possible (previously this was an option).
MST (Multi Stream Support) is nothing more than that a plurality of image signals can be transmitted via a cable. This is for example for Monitor Daisy Chaining (multiple monitors via a cable to the PC) or the UHD support necessary.
So at UHD monitors or daisy chaning only the transmitted bandwidth via a DP connection is higher, therefore, is required on both sides DP 1.2.
However, DP cables are generally used for all previous versions of the specification, there has been no change in the cabling.
That is, that cable is where not explicitly mentioned that these UHD, 4k or DP support 1.2 do so.
(The best example is the cable purchased from me, because in the description only a 1080p certification is given.)
I hope that the statement is useful if it is a bit offtopic.
