The advantages compared to Canon are:
1. a higher dynamic range of 13.9 EV which makes itself noticeable in the bright and dark areas. It leaves more room for maneuver in the post-processing when you shoot in RAW format. But JPEGs benefit. Like to do so very useful for people's photos at dusk or in low light conditions.
2. The sharpness of the images with the kit lens in this price range are unbeaten. Even the much larger sensor of the sharpness benefits. If you can print the photos, so on photo paper, you have a lot more leeway. Since the photos generally have a higher resolution, you can cut something else in the machining program of their choice.
3. The video quality is class. Since this camera only films FullHD with frames, of course you can not compare with a 4K camera, for example, Panasonic (GH-4) this. But in FullHD area the quality is class. Even at night.
4. The noise behavior is undefeated against a Canon in this price range. Although it occurs by candlelight image noise, but this looks more natural. The noise at Canon is more a color noise, a mash of colorful image spots.
The disadvantages compared to Canon are:
1. The Picture Style Controling at Nikon is focusing on the important things. Sharpness, contrast, brightness, saturation, hue. Canon offers the Picture Style Editor more features that are very useful. At Canon, you can also touch the individual colors. I mean, a Canon you can directly when taking pictures or filming to say how it will deal with individual Faben do without the later on the PC.
2. Another disadvantage is that in live view during the filming, no aperture is changeable. That's too bad. So you're focused on the ISO and the shutterspeed. What is not always an advantage.
3. Even stupid, which is set in the LiveView only a maximum shutter of 1/30. One has to ask from the LiveView out by, for example, to BULB. This is solved better at Canon. Why Nikon does not get to the series, we do not know.
In the attached photos I once conducted a Low Light Test in video mode. The images are single frames from the respective video file. Quite simply, nothing Excessive laboratory. Just some stuff behind a candle and tried.
Pay attention please with the test image ISO 6400 on the discontinuities of hue in the canon in the paper with the colorful circles.
