I have been given this whiskey stones a few months ago. The set includes 9 cooling stones in soapstone, as well as a small blue velvet bag. The stones have an edge length of approximately 18mm, and are thus slightly smaller than conventional ice cube. Before using one puts the stones a few hours in the freezer, or in the freezer. After a few hours the whiskey stones are ready for use and the cooling performance is surprisingly good. Comparing the cooling effect with conventional ice cubes, then cooling is only slightly slower. The big advantage is that the drink is not diluted. For testing, I have charged 3 cooling stones for 12 hours in a freezer at -21 ° C. The stones I then placed in a conventional glass whiskey tumbler and filled with 18 ° cold tap water to hälft. After 5 minutes, the water was cooled down to 6 ° C. After 12 minutes, the water temperature was still chilly 8 ° C. The values may vary, of course, since they are dependent on many factors such as room temperature, glasses and liquid.
What I did not like it so much that these stones move very loud in the glass and there is a risk that the glasses blunt over time, and are easily damaged. I will observe this at an extra glass of whiskey next time and complete at a later date my review. For occasional use, however, there should be no problems. The Whiskey Stones should use even in thick glasses (eg tumbler glass). For thin-walled Nosing glasses there is a danger that this break.
