The first camera was a Drift HD170 Stealth. With the shots I was satisfied overall, although the assembly over Ram-Mount made on the handlebar bridge in certain speed ranges for such strong vibrations that not much was then recognized. After about half a year, the holder of the batteries broke (at the new no longer exists the problem that way, but the battery must be replaced due to the seals for a real fumbling), so that the camera went out again and again, even when cover firmly closed. After then also the (in the HD 170 is not replaceable) glass lens during transport in the storage compartment of the machine "blindgescheuert" had, I sent the whole unit on and got after some back-and-forth drift HD as a substitute (the HD 170 at that time was no longer available).
The new camera also only lasted a few months, then the recordings during a day trip on the motorcycle until today for some unknown reason were increasingly blurred. Something had moved beyond repair and could not be set again. The second exchange of camera took due to delivery delays for several months, so that the equipment arrived only after the end of the 2012 season and has wintered in the package. Now I have it strapped several times on my two motorcycles and received about 2-3 hours of footage with the new device.
The picture quality is basically okay, but occur - especially when shooting undisguised machine - always strong image distortion, as if pumping, waft or wiggle the picture (be squashed vertically and pull apart again). This clouds the viewing pleasure of the finished films but reasonably, so I currently think about buying a GoPpro Hero (2 or 3), but others disadvantages (no threaded receiver, no control display, no rotatable lens, little aerodynamic shape, remote control only at Hero 3 BE, etc. pp)!
Will soon be time to try to get a GoPro and to mount them simultaneously with the drift in order to perform a true comparison of the two systems can. Result then here in the update! ;-)
As for the sound, I bought the external microphone for Drift HD 170, but broke down before I could test the micro. The recordings with the internal microphone let the motorcycle engines shrill and unpleasant sound ... the sound is very thin and easily overridden quickly.
At a glance:
+ Image quality
+ Shape and size
+ Rotatable lens (so the camera can be mounted in almost any position)
+ Control monitor with menu function
+ Simple 4-key operation
- Image Stabilization with high-frequency vibrations (? And also to fast movements) overwhelmed
- Durability of the installed plastic parts
- Brightness adjustment with light and shade change on sunny days tends to overexpose
- Sound Quality
PS: I work neither for nor for Drift Innovation GoPro or otherwise establishes a company that sells cameras or ... not for any attachment manufacturer. This text simply represents only my experiences and impressions with the product and the lessons for me reviews. I hope it helps. :-)
