Short for "history": For almost 10 years I had a permanently installed navigation system in different vehicles. But in addition to the rather "rich" charge for the equipment was for me the price of map updates becoming the nuisance (in Europe-DVD's up to 380, - EUR list price). And now comes yet the subscription scam .... Now back decency a map update that was now the chance time to try an experiment with a mobile or Zusätzgerät. As a small detail there was the "bag" as a base for the dashboard to the incredibly functional and simply ingenious. With car hire more than once the holder with suction cup had landed while riding in the passenger footwell, mostly in damp weather. The problem is no longer now as well. So I thought to myself: Here we go!
On the subject of representation and usability, I would say not much in my review, this can be here already read other very detailed advice. I would like to talk about some other aspects just as "transfer passengers" and facing "new" functions.
POSITIVE:
- The start-up was carried out without a detailed study of the operating instructions. Connecting to Your PC, software installed (for adjusting the
Installed map material and the firmware), some minor updates and after about 30 minutes the device was ready. A good place to start.
- I was amazed by the accuracy of the velocity measurement of the device. The deviation is around 5-8 kph compared to
Tacho, and also has indeed certain tolerances. Thus the myth of the advantage of the fixed installation was by the wheel sensor before
"Destroyed".
- Voice input: has Incredibly, after a short learning phase (first trip) the system has a detection rate of 90-95% (ok, I turn the music
from in announcements of address). Other commands while driving flaps without any problem. Also a real innovation compared to the
Fixed installation. No "fiddling" with more entering addresses or ZIP.
- Jam announcement: Again a significant improvement compared to the previous device with pure TMC. The display of the current values
including the estimated loss of time is a good solution and not too distracting during navigation. About quality of information one can argue,
that is not the fault of the device.
- Dynamic Zoom: Folds also good, both reviewed in longer sections and detailed display when "filigree".
NEGATIVE:
- The distance from the turnoff usually know on an error between 10-20 meters, even at lower speeds, for example in
built-up areas (though I do not mean the distance from the motorway exit, as there are also different opinions, which
Reference should be made point). Since the arrival of quite precise announced at the destination and the speed is determined properly must it
rather be a problem within the software. Other systems are here precisely, and especially in unknown major cities
can quickly lead times at the wrong turning.
- Satellite TV: Just below "problematic" situation resolved not good. At the start in the garage who comes often the fault of
"Poor reception", even when driving through tunnels makes you more likely "flying blind" (= image is still there, but there is no active
Route guidance). And tunnel junctions are not only in Italy but also often in cities like Stuttgart, Munich or Berlin.
And since it is doubly annoying when you have to drive a few kilometers before you can apply.
As I said initially: All in all very positive, strong buy recommendation. I have therefore withdrawn because the two problems for me could be avoided the star. But let's see, maybe we surprised the manufacturer with one of its next update. The manufacturer with the apple has indeed proven that you can exhaust the hardware better with clever software innovations.
What now than Umsteiger most annoys me: The USB cable! But there is now also a plan, and if that is gone then there is in my view no reason 2000-2400 EUR at the vehicle manufacturer for the pay "big" solution. For this you can afford nicer extras.
