The warning that the fan is VERY VERY loud, I am sorry to confirm absolutely !! And this shall be a clear advice to each buyer who first posed by an office-grade equipment! Better to stay away! The UPS is by no means what wants for the work area where you can sit and back up its investment. But just for a separate room. For me, however, is exactly the case. So I knew where I was getting into it. My PC is connected to the UPS in a hallway on a shelf and from there run cables through the wall in a composition space. I have connected to the UPS next to the computer 3x24 TFTs 2 active studio speakers and all kinds of USB hubs with the standard stuff like keyboard, mouse, webcam, etc., and a large master keyboard, an AD converter and a noble Mikrotonvorverstärker. All in all, perhaps 600 watts, provided everything up and running at full capacity. However, I have to this situation rarely needed. The UPS shows me always an average of 20-30 minutes battery time. I think in an emergency, a good value to have something to bring to an end and then safely shut down the system.
The included software is in itself quite OK, although I have no experience with other manufacturers, because this is my first UPS. The manual can be found on the manufacturer's site. There you can see all the functions and they are described. One can make a lot of settings and also has timer and logging functions. However, I found the one and off for daily needs but quite cumbersome, since you had to log in always only through the browser in a menu and then were 2-3 clicks necessary. An enable and disable the device itself was permanently no solution for me. Not only because of the constant bending over and pressing the tiny buttons on the control panel, but also the operational sounds annoying but if you get caught it every day in his ear. Some experiments on which shutdown under no load or the mains plug, so that until the computer shuts down and then the UPS were not convincing or have not worked. I go gewannt forward to customer service and made the decision to keep the UPS depends.
There I would still very friendly and helpful advice, even if the final solution took a few days until this answer had been given by their engineers. And although I had hoped to get direct control commands that you can send version of the software to the UPS via a console or text. For Linux, there is something to give in the way, by the manufacturer itself. And there is also an open source solutions on the net, but support only limited features. However, I work on Windows 7, and since there is only a graphical version of the bundled software and content of the cumbersome way through the browser. For me 4 orders were important: on and off of the UPS, as well as activating the ECO mode and the command to switch to the LINE mode. Why the latter? Because I still have in addition another problem, namely, a photovoltaic system of my neighbors which day harmonics sends me into the electricity grid, which I can hear about my active boxes. With the LINE mode the UPS I can filter them out, and another is dependent on the volume of the speakers themselves and read at least significantly reduced. But I will not go into the subject further because soon pending another measurement. Basically, I use at night or weak sun the ECO mode, which can pass through the flow as a bypass, but of course the batteries are on hand if needed.
Then after a few days I got to my delight the control commands from the customer service and the information, the "telnet" the UPS via a client such as Ex. Windows Hyper Terminal can be operated. I then found a better way for me. Namely, with a free and well-known open source client named PuTTYtel. Created a few VBScript files and scripts respectively in the Startup and Shutdown as integrated into Windows. This do for me before the ON and OFF switch of UPS automatically, and changing the high and go down in the ECO mode. Of course, is very convenient that you can adjust the UPS so that it still works even when switched mode in bypass and the current can be carried. However, this means the computer is not initially secured in the boot, if that's important to someone. Alternative would otherwise be on again on the device itself. LINE mode I turn me when needed with a script to. Be left to say, I have the UPS connected to the serial port to USB. There is a USB to USB ... I hope that it goes well.
Incidentally, I have measured roughly the current idle UPS and had been reduced to 20 watts. I'm no expert, but Wikipedia is VFI UPS are so in 10% of own contribution to electricity consumption. Accordingly, actually a great value ?!
What else can I write? The front display is very easy to read and gives good information. Among other things, the remaining time of batteries in battery mode. Perhaps you could also insert a function in the future, to turn it off. Costs but only electricity. The UPS itself is very well made and makes a very solid impression. When the batteries need to be replaced in a few years, there will again exciting.
Again said the conclusion, for me this UPS has exactly met my needs. Although I had good fumbling with the software, but more so it does now exactly what it is and enjoy the search I had. However, something has to be TĂĽftelspass already. But I think for the price will hardly find something better, as long as you can install it in a separate room!
Unfortunately I could not find any reviews on the net, or other information. Only a few very negative tests of other models. But I go first times knits from my experience and therefore 5 star! ;-)
