Philips promises for his hair trimmer Philips HC7450 / 80 a longer duration, effortless cutting and better performance through the so-called "Dual Cut technology". The device can be used both with cable and on battery power. The internal Li-Ion battery should, after a charging time of one hour, allow up to 120 minutes of wireless operation. The self-sharpening titanium blades are oil-free and washable. With the "Zoom Wheel" should be possible in 1mm intervals precise length adjustment of 0.5 mm and 1 to 23mm. In addition, the HC7450 / 80 provides a turbo button, which increases the cutting performance.
== == The hair trimmer
= First impression =
The device is, in particular due to the ergonomic housing with a recessed handle in the middle, very good in the hand. In addition, also carries the pleasant weight of this good impression: the hair trimmer is neither heavy nor light enough one would doubt the quality.
The plastic housing is designed quite appealing and consists of elements in matt and high-gloss black and silver accents on the top. All controls are located on the top: the on / off switch, a switch for the Turbo mode, a dial for adjusting the cutting height adjustment and a status LED for the charging state.
The hair clipper can be used both for cutting the scalp hair and for trimming the beard. For both applications is an appropriate comb. There are two lateral guide rails that must be used at the top of the hair clipper in holes and snapping it onto the essays. The cutting length can then be conveniently adjusted via a control dial on the device.
= Accessories =
The hair trimmer comes with accessories in a plastic case. Unfortunately, the included scissors and comb only of simple Quality. Since I already have a decent pair of scissors and a comb, this defect fall for me not significant. For emergencies, the information supplied should be sufficient utensils.
Annoyingly I find, however, that its functionality can not meet the storage case. The use, where you can arrange cutter and accessories in "luggage", is made of cardboard in the appearance of an egg carton. Also, there is not for all the accessories useful preformed support locations. Ultimately, the accessories are loose in suitcases spread. Too bad that could have been solved better.
= Start =
Before the first (wireless) using the first integrated Li-ion battery needs to be recharged. For this purpose is a compact power adapter. The charging process is signaled by a flashing green LED. After about an hour the battery is actually fully charged. A low charge level is indicated by a red flashing LED.
== The hair trimmer in practice ==
I want to reflect my experience with the Philips HC7450 / 80 cutting hair here. For beard trimming I do not use the device and therefore can not comment on this application.
My hairstyle options are genetically determined, but rather limited and a hairdresser's worth no more really. So I cut my already had a few years even the hair - with the help of electric hair clippers. Over time, I have some devices from different manufacturers tried. All do have more or less work, but also brought more diverse disadvantages. Particularly critical is the cutting length adjustment, which is often to change only cumbersome and can be adjusted, in the worst case, even unnoticed during the hair cutting (resulting in "interesting" hairstyles).
When Philips HC7450 / 80, the adjustment of the cutting length is very well resolved. It is only a comb attachment for all lengths between 1 and 23mm needed. This locks securely on the device and can be adjusted in millimeter steps at the appropriate distance from the titanium blades. This is done with a broad gummed rotary knob, which is accessible both from the top and the bottom. The wheel locks at each interface level and is stiff enough to prevent inadvertent adjustment of the length. The remaining hair length can be read directly on the control dial. Without attachment, the cutting length is 0.5mm.
The comb itself makes a good impression - the material thickness is sufficiently thick so that the comb cutting hair not strongly deformed. With cheaper models often leads already to the slight pressure when applying to the head, that the plastic yields. The result: an uneven haircut.
The self-sharpening titanium blades provide a clean cutting result - all hair is clean cut and not torn. The cutting performance is perfectly adequate for thicker hair and for places with dense hair. Turbo mode with a higher average frequency I do not need. Without attachment can contours, for example, to the sideburns or neck, adapt well.
The operating noise of the Philips HC7450 / 80 is clearly audible, but not annoying loud. In Turbo mode, the noise increases noticeably.
In the meantime several haircuts I was able to achieve with the HC7450 / 80 always a smooth and clean result. Comb and blade have a practical width - you do not have too many "lowering" the head and at the same time the area around the ears will remain easily accessible. The trimmer can be, by the wide surface, perform safely on the head along.
= Cleaning =
After removing the comb body, shaving head and cap can be cleaned using the enclosed brush. The shaving head can be removed from the device after pressing a button on the back panel easily. Comb and shaving head can then be rinsed under the tap - very convenient. The hair trimmer itself must not be cleaned with water.
== Conclusion ==
The Philips Hair Clipper HC7450 / 80 leaves a good impression. He has a very good cutting performance, cable-free operation, a reliable length adjustment and can be handled well in haircutting. Only the supplied accessories can not convince me. Overall recommended.
