This device is a hybrid between external disk "traditional", wifi key and memory card. The finish is correct, but actually quite plastic. The unit is lightweight and compact enough, but too thick (almost twice my smartphone.)
Who is it aimed at? Essentially to iPhone users, iPad and other tablets - more so if you have more, since you will be able to read your files on all these devices. Attention by cons you can not modify your files in this way.
For Android smartphones, it also works, but his interest is more debatable to the extent there is anyway not need iTunes or any software to transfer your files.
It functions as an external drive in the sense that you can connect it to any computer via USB, to read and write all your data on the internal memory. 32GB, it is hardly proper for an SSD (but there are now versions 64 and 128 gigas) is found elsewhere for much less USB drives of this capacity. The speed USB 2.0 is very good, but we can still regret that USB 3.0 was not intended.
The device integrates WiFi connectivity and of course it is what makes all its interest to use as distributed memory with a smartphone or tablet. But ask yourself the question first to expand the memory of your device with a suitable map: the majority of smartphones and tablets accept a card of 16, 32 or 64 gigabytes extra. But this is much cheaper than this type of device, it must also be close and that must manage the battery. If you have a "iTruc" The question does not arise since no Apple device does not allow this, and in this case, this kind of device is definitely the best solution. Except to change to a better equipped version of memory (and Apple charges extra gigas very expensive ...) The device works with an integrated battery which therefore takes a few hours after a full recharge via the USB port, you should think about recharge regularly (a wall charger is provided, and a carrying case.)
Information is kept to a minimum, whether the really short mini-guide provided (you have to go on the manufacturer's website for a complete manual, but the French version speaks not even Android), information from icons the camera (battery and wifi) or the application itself.
After installing the free application Transcend, I made various attempts over several months: it works well for music, and for some office files, however remember the videos! Two big problems, the wifi connection is poor (really feeble network, even one meter distance), then the application and / or device are just unable to handle HD video, while a recorded video 720p or 1080p on the phone or micro SD card runs without any problems. MX Player is incomparably better. Total races: SD videos spend properly, the 720p is very jerky, not watchable. If you have associated subtitles (SRT ...), forget it too, it does not. If the network is lost, the video is cut and returns to the file list. Under ICS, the notification bar still appears despite the full screen video ... and I do not even move me in a video: assured crash. Impractical! In addition, you can not transfer files from the phone to the disk, you just have the right to erase.
The firmware update did not solve any problem. There are more efficient, cheaper and easier to use: memory card, hard drive or DLNA network from the computer. Summary: Android users, go your way, if your problem is the storage capacity of your phone or tablet, check the memory card side. And do not hesitate to seek tests and reviews on the net, often nearly as glowing here, including iOS.
