Only the hard drive is quiet to hear (if settings as noted described below)., But not annoying
Unit is meticulously crafted.
PSU is refined paralell fitting the plug, not fly like HP.
Touchscreen reflects, that is the case now times in this design, maximum brightness for me (90% office) enough.
Operation with Win 8 is great fun, really successful for my purposes well suited (90% job, 10% leisure)
Only one not completely uncorrectable shortcoming I found: My loudspeakers roar at 60-80% of the volume already - the sound is really ugly by overdriving and the vibration of keyboard / case.
Remedy: Reduce the volume, or turn off the Audio Wizard, then it goes to 70-75% actually ok.
PS: The device with a Samsung 540 500GB SSD and 4GB of RAM upgrade in 1600 will definitely bring enormous speed advantage (tested at Vivo of colleagues) - in a forum I read, the Vivo Book allows the Bluetooth / WLAN replace card for 25- $ 30 and it also dominates Intel WiDi (Wireless Display). Caution: Do not the Intel 6235 (unripe) but take the 6230.
For those who want to but noble and functional laptop with Win 8 and touch a moderate price (incl. Upgrade still OK from the price) is definitely a top unit. Touchpad keyboard are highlights, the look and the screen is more than enough for my purposes.
My first instrument was a lacquer error - unfortunately (at the hinge of the display lacquered plastic) and went back.
Moreover touchpad slightly fitted diagonally.
The second device I had annoyingly also return, I again get a in which the touchpad too deep was in the left front corner and the bottom plate with columns and was not built to fit.
(Warning: Some would not perceive the gaps or the 0.5-0.8 mm the touchpad and edges as disturbing, I unfortunately).
But because the device is so great are probably minor flaws that are suffered most users and are still satisfied.
UPDATE
The third device has been received, except for 2 small micro-scratches on the same paint part no coarser workmanship (as the first device and minimal different gap dimensions of the base plate -. To recognize but since you have to very closely watch this touchpad is not optimal built but somewhat better. speaker with this device go without AudioWizard with 70-75% volume.
UPDATE 2
The Samsung touchpad update brings a lot, no longer a driver of the stuck or does not respond, also good Configtool.
To disable only the shortcut in the Asus Vivo Book screen and configure the touchpad no longer then goes naturally. Keys Samsung is slightly different, but in my opinion equally well as with Asus.
Tip: Freeware Netbook fan cotrol install - makes the laptop fan completely silent - with me the profile of the Asus UX51 Zenbooks works well so far! Bios update to 203 this did not work (even the Gear4Power tool from Asus does not). The tool for Win 8 in the startup, but the auto-Fan Control must always be started manually.
After 3 weeks trial period I fancontrol but increasingly less used, because with a new Bios runs only on 1 or after some time the fan. Nevertheless super tool that should not be missing.
1216 Euro incl. 8GB and 500GB SD is unbeatable. Who needs massive sound - USB Speaker drangeben.
As I said speakers are OK but not great, processing, this machine absolutely OK and Win8 touch screen & Pad really amazing. Fast, efficient and with fancontrol (temperature in office mode etc. slightly higher, at about 50-60 degrees but even on his knees barely noticeable in contrast to the fan) and SSD absolutely silent - a fun & work device.
2h updates but you have ever einrechnen software side. Caution: If the Win8 Store is not running, change system language and change back, then läufts perfect.
UPDATE 3
The touchpad (left front 1mm too deep) can be very simple repair - (ev. Still fix) Unscrew the base plate and the support point 2-3 layers heat-resistant adhesive tape between the contact point and give Touchpadrahmen, bottom plate back on it, ev. with 2 fingers still exert some pressure on the top next to the left front corner concerned, voila - the touchpad is perfectly flat.
See Photo.
Alternative would be the soon to be released S550 have (with DVD and a decided graphics card), possibly could. Better speakers. Meanwhile, the price has dropped to 100 euro also.
Those who do not get along with Win 8s Start menu can win the manufacture of software (some freeware) again (completely or partially) 7 Start. But most are not very appealing to found on ViStart (Skins). Now have Start8 bought for 4.99 dollars - makes Win 8 finally round and perfect.
UPDATE 4: After 3 weeks of configuration tests I have the 3rd laptop now but return again - the Atheros Wifi card matches both my home network as well as the corporate network (after 20-30 devices in the WLAN problems with Tomato) regularly to crash (all routers (DD -WRT, TP-Link, etc. crash) regardless of OS and drivers. It's a pity because after elimination of the other flaws I had the Asus quite well found.
I have just now mentioned earlier ordered Asus s550cm. Even with this I'll probably have to fix the touchpad. However, I have ordered it with i5, as I suspect that the battery keeps longer and the fan control is better thus. Gaming Performance etc. I need not - Also, the S550 is a dedicated graphics card. Hopefully I get one of the models with the Intel Wifi card.
Conclusion: the s500ca is above fixes for the price probably the best touch Ultrabook laptop on the market. Who no problems with his free WIFI (or other Wlankarte installed) gets a dream machine for less money, with plenty of upgrade options (RAM, SSD (I have homemade) WifiCard, 2 antenna, Wireless Display (in some forums discussed). Who but much in the light or outdoor environment works will not bear the mirroring of the display permanently. For office un Home but goes smoothly. (emergency matte screen film on it)
If an Asus tranformer Win 8 Book come in 15.6, it solves the Vivo Book from well.
UPDATE 4
The s550cm (i5) has arrived. Pure excitement! Much better processing, completely different (better) concept.
Pro:
- Far better, perfect finish (silver hairline aluminum - slightly shiny, not matte), valent, stable
- Absolutely noiseless
- Perfect speaker sound (impressive!)
- Latest BIOS
- More sophisticated concept
- DVD drive, dedicated graphic card
- Installed touchpad perfectly
- Replaceable battery, accessible bottom
- Keyboard slightly recessed, comfortable
Cons:
- Back of the battery is not very valent (the display) plastic
- Bottom not quite as wertig as in s500ca
- Touchpad matt, semi-gloss rest
- Again, the touchpad has to be switched to Samsung
- 600g more weight
Whether this Atheros wifi chip makes problems I can not say yet, but it looks good.
Wifi / Bluetooth / WiDi adapter can be replaced, Ram be expanded to 8GB, SSD can be installed. Tip: Try anti-reflective display foil.
When removing watch - a screw (DVD fixation) is under mini plastic sticker centered hidden).
i5 I could not notice any difference in performance (but is quieter and less warm than the i7 s500ca)
General: This laptop is really very, very well done!
Only a keyboard light is missing, but at this price ...
Conclusion: Unbeatable at 15.6 Touch Ultrabooks with DVD and Win8!
