Packaging & Converting:
The video light comes in a sturdy cardboard box, inside additionally packed with bubble wrap. In the packing a kind case with another Orange filter and a white filter is also attached to the luminous area of the video light. The battery compartment is provided with a cover, which has a recess. There is an adapter for a camcorder battery, which then protrudes from the recess, the battery is not present. The processing is valuable and suitable for the price, the plastic is quite hard and has some slight Gießränder, but this is not really disturbing.
In the item description (Stand 12/2014) a "1 * Hot shoe stand" stands, it's probably not a separate smaller stand for the hot shoe meant but the hot shoe itself, because a "subject" (engl. = Stand Stand / tripod) is not there.
Function, advantages and disadvantages:
The luminous area has the dimensions of 12 x 8 cm and the edge measures approx 5mm, the housing has large round air vents that allow a view of the internal electronics. One should take good care that there penetrate possible objects or liquids inadvertently. I have taped on top with some electrical tape around the part can be used also in very light rain My copy.
The "hot shoe" is made of metal and has a fairly stable, the product images is partly a plastic base mapped, that is not true apparently, because in my copy it is stamped metal.
Once put on the camera or camcorder can be the video light knurled screw lock (like most lightning also) and it can be "relatively" simply a rather small plastic joint with a metal screw to adjust the tilt, but sets the pointed finger ahead - the joint has a catch - so you have to solve quite far to get from one stage to another snap the screw. The screening is relatively fine, I would estimate at about 5 degrees. It is much easier to adjust the inclination before pushing on the camera.
The power supply can be done by six AA batteries or six AA batteries or even a camcorder battery. Operation with Eneloop batteries is quite reliable, with batteries, it works equally well, only you have to insert the batteries and replace the battery cover notice that both batteries and accumulators as rather "loose" through the hole in Battereifachdeckel back and wobbling. At times, that had taken care of flickering of the light.
In my copy of the cautious stretching the feathers had helped in the battery compartment to reduce this effect, so I run the part for some time quite stable.
If you want to operate the lamp with a camcorder battery can the Panasonic CGR-D16A / 1B do it with, for example, that one gets as a replica including charger for a mere 20 euros. Presumably this is the more elegant solution, and the recess (the big hole) in the battery compartment cover should then adjust it.
The light is really great, of very moderate lighting to very strong light reaches the dial, which is the switch at the same time. On the back there are four red LED next to a button, this is pressed, the four LED the charge status of (the) battery (s) (batteries) to a LED accordingly about 25% state of charge.
The color filter / diffuser disc is once while in milky white and once in milky orange and there is a case made surprisingly stable plastic film. These filter plates are inserted from above into the light. The orange filter is a very 'warm' and creates a strong "golden" effect on the skin, I use almost not at all, the white filter is via white balance with my cameras (6000K) on the skin tone very well and effectively Syndicate.
Benefits:
+ Price / Performance
+ Light dosage
+ Variable Power Supply
+ Ordinary processing
+ Flexible use of photo and video
Disadvantages:
- AA batteries or AA batteries too loose
- Fiddly screening at the joint
Conclusion:
The perfect score would have given it if the battery compartment would be a little better shape so that the AA 'batteries would not put so loose it and that vents would have been slightly smaller and practicable, otherwise the price / performance ratio is in the ~ 30 Euro really good and quite fits. The item description (photos and supply) could be clearer. Overall, the results are quite good with it, even if you do not use the light for filming.
-------------------------------------- -------- UPDATE 30.12.2014 ------------------------------
Operation with a D16A battery - in my case with the Offer in the SET: High Camera Li-Ion Battery + Battery Charger with Car Adapter replaces Panasonic CGR-D16A / 1B CGR D16SE / 1B CGR-D210 CGR-D220 CGR-D220A / 1B CGR-D220E / 1B CGR-D320 CGR-D320A / 1B has brought a luminous period of slightly more than 1.0 hours at 100% brightness (at the highest level), according to the description to the purchased battery have a capacity of 2200mA , Up to a little over 1.5 hours you can see the light then use at up to about 50% of the brightness, then I charged the battery.
