Advantages of the tablet:
- Fast
- Very good display
- Pre-installed apps can be uninstalled
- Good workmanship
- Fits comfortably in your hand and feels very good to (but is quite heavy)
- Very fast turn-on
- Inexpensive (although the price is higher now)
- Relatively long battery life (if you only read and hear audio books the battery lasts several days)
- Miracast (I can reflect the screen contents to my TV)
Disadvantages:
- To use the machine at all to use the 1st time a wireless connection and a registration is required (as with Apple - why, I wonder?)
- WLAN problems (repeatedly occurs abortions although the base is not far away - but in the basement)
- HDMI output does not work (at least for me)
- Micro-USB port is too smooth (the cable wobbles slightly when it is connected - but holds)
- Memory not expandable (was aware - I do not mind - man can use USB flash drives as a memory)
- Android 4.2 (there will be no update - Kobo pulls out of the tablet market return)
- Tinny sound; I expected more after the reviews here (through headphones the sound is very good)
- Slide switches (this looks quite cheap and feels like that, a power button would have been much better)
The WLAN problems really annoy me - repeatedly came Authentication Error - but when you combine the Kobo via WPS with the base and then remain close to base, so that at least 3 bar signal strength are available to keep the terminations within limits. This WiFi problem I think is the biggest drawback of the device! On the Internet you can read that I am not the only one with these problems. I Kobo contacted via e-mail - they have also responded quickly - but the only advice that you could give me was a reset to factory state. I did that - then, of course, are all the apps installed in addition to books, audio books, etc. gone - has brought it unfortunately nothing.
Why not work for me the HDMI output I have not yet figured out - the support meant it would be the cord - I'm going to try another cable on occasion. (Although the cable with my cell phone works)
I additionally bought the Sleep-Case. This works great. Simply open and the tablet is ready - but WiFi needs some time to connect. If you open the case goes to the tablet in standby - also you can use the Case as an erection - I am very satisfied. It is also a good protection for your tablet.
Reading books makes this part a lot of fun - the screen display is very comfortable - better than the iPad.
After registration, there was also free a book from the Kobo Store. App Night mode of "Kobo Books" also guarantees comfortable reading in bed. It is also good that one is not bound to a format - you can basically read all e-book formats. I do not need to convert. That was one reason to buy me no Kindle.
Even videos look brilliant from - with a storage capacity of effective "only" about 12 GB you can not save a lot of video material in HD, of course - there is then the possibility to use a USB stick very well - or to play with good Wi-Fi connection from the DropBox from that works well.
So I am very pleased overall with the device - for this price. A higher price but I would not pay - but the disadvantages are then too large.
I also own an I-Pad - but now I use almost exclusively the Kobo. Too bad that there will be no more Tablets Kobo - I would certainly have bought one.
