Good performance for size and price

Although I already possess a superior Tamron 17-50, I have gained this lens because it is significantly smaller and lighter in contrast to the Tamron. For certain missions (zBin the mountains) is my Tamron already too heavy. I had earlier already times a predecessor, the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor 18-55mm 1: 3.5-5.6G ED VR II without.

What I like:
- Use the parking position, the lens can be moved together and locked to a minimum length (the predecessor to the tube did not fully retract and could not be backed up through a lock)
- The focus is (dimmed) not too far from my very sharp Tamron away (but visible under high magnification)
- Low minimum focusing distance (less than the Tamron)
- Better value than the previous model (but unfortunately still no metal bayonet)
- The Image Stabilization seems to work very effectively (1/10 free hand was not a problem)
- Small and light (as already mentioned)

What I do not like:
- It comes with no sun visor and contain no quiver (is probably in almost all KIT lenses so)
- At my D5100 autofocus is a little slower than with the Tamron

In summary, I can say that I no significant weaknesses are noticed and the lens enables a simple and carefree photographing.
For a kit lens, which is now to have at a reasonable price, my conclusion is therefore "like" (= 4 stars).
