Negatives: software widely deserve to be redesigned and rethought. When you're on OS X, it's a little prehistory on its screen. It is best, so, to use other Mac software (Graphic Couverter, Preview, Photoshop ...) rather than those offered by the manufacturer.
The most infuriating, besides the excessive price of cartridges is the fact that when one is empty, all the printer is blocked. We can not print at all, not even black text, if a color cartridge or the gray is empty. Height of stupidity, even we can not document scanner: all printer is completely blocked.
It is therefore imperative to have reservations cartridges at hand - always - on pain of not being able to use anything. It's a shame. So we appreciate that this printer allows printing with just a black cartridge for times when you do not need color. A good number of clients, I suppose, spends periods when they only print the text, for work, letters, etc. and can at least hope for such a printer that does not crash because of the lack of yellow. Ditto for a scanner that should work all the time, even when there is no ink !!!
Finally, it is probably a good way to get the customer always at checkout. For me coming out of 15 years of laser printers (monochrome), I really appreciate the color and quality of the Canon for my photos, but I do not support such dependence in ink! The risk for Canon is that customers are turning to cheaper compatible inks or they decide to change printers.
If the goal is for you to take photos all the time or almost, this printer is stirring quality. If, against, you, in addition to the photo, a lot of text, consider a printer that is less radical on this point. If you especially against by the text, go to the mono laser beam, even colors for graphics. The toners are more expensive to buy (about 60 euros), they last for months or one to three years in some cases. Think, all inkjet is not the only way, and developments at the photographer picture sometimes return less expensive.
