SALEWA MTN TRAINER MID GTX MS Men trekking & hiking boots (shoes)

Customer Review

In general, I am working but always one or two minutes longer with new purchases. So this time, when it came to buying mountain walking boots. And I have to say I'm not a big fan of walking per se. My claim is Action and challenges and thereby should my new shoes also play. The requirement is that my new hoof is very versatile. He has both mountain hikes withstand as be prepared for a fixed rope and thereby provide enough "lightness" and flexibility for easy hikes.

In my search, I came across the SALEWA MTN TRAINER GTX. The rough with its sole, high shaft, the impact and tear-resistant Ummantlung, a small climbing area that is nonetheless quite flexible substructure is exactly fulfill my wishes.

I have the shoe now for about a week. I had ordered it in sizes 44.5 and 45. In general, it is said that one should treat his toes a thumb wide (about 1 cm) square to the front in order to avoid the descent of the abutment of the shoes.
Now I have a vll. Some shallow / wide foot and the shoe itself is vll. A selected bit big (normal shoe size 44). Because of the square to the front, but I have decided for the 45er. These Falke trekking socks TK2 (relatively thin, compared to thick hiking / skiing socks).
Resulting challenge is the lack of material in height. The forefoot has too much space. Thus he moves too much in the shoe and has too little stop. What happens then, I wanted to avoid having the selected size, I come but slightly ahead of and during the test at my house ... Just tight lacing does not bring the desired result, because then press the guides of the laces on his foot and tongue ankle / leg and it is generally too narrow in the shoe.

Anyone who has a rather wide and flat feet, can try the following. I bought two days test run an insole. The soles in good shoes can be taken out. From Lowa eg is there replacement soles for a price around 6 euro. When MTN TRAINER GTX the sole is also "two-piece". It consists firstly of a thin "outsole" from MFF, which is attached via 2 velcro fasteners on the "top floor". The "Upper Sole" consists of an unspectacular and typical combination of a kind of foam and textile fabric. The yellow MFF "outsole" actually served the slight narrowing of the shoe for people with narrower feet.
I have decided to lay the Lowa sole under the "upper sole" of SALEWA. In addition, I bought the TK1 socks from Falke, which are in any case better suited for mountain walks in my opinion (much thicker). The shoe is now clearly "full" and provides my foot better grip.
A trick you can still apply if you want to experiment with the lacing. For instance, lace up the front foot more than the stem, or vice versa. Just at the point where you the Schnürstärke change the laces, as the first step for a node, one above the other and then beat both laces anticlockwise to respective facing outside of the shoe and continue to lace. At the point with this twisted half knot the laces do not slide over each other and the Schnürstärke remains the same and does not change while running.

If me and not help you this enough, you can be prepared deposits by an expert. From where do you get in up to 2 pieces on prescription from their GP. The first time (creating footprint including first pair of soles) which are betw. 80 and 100 Euro payment. Then you get the customized soles with recipe from just 30 euros a pair. The orthopedist may be produced even in material thickness and suitable for shoe soles then most.
I did that with my basketball shoes and I have never had such a stable starting. However, what you should consider when purchasing the shoe is that you can remove the insole. Otherwise, the insole must be extremely thin, as otherwise the space inside the shoe is not enough and that you can not make the part.

Because the seams are set and implemented on the tongue a bit clumsy and press and on the basis of my previous experience, the shoe does not get full marks.
I'm on the upcoming tours with this shoe very excited and would possibly again report on the performance of the shoe.
