Devil Aureol Massive - Closed on-ear headphones for hi-fi fans, musicians, DJs (Electronics)

Customer Review

First of all: The Devil Aureol Massive sound great and are absolutely worth the money. However, the sound is bass-heavy and space limited. Hi-fi listeners with this product can only do something when they get involved open ear to it and the usual setting that a balanced, neutral sound is the ultimate jettison. These headphones listening to music is like as if you were back in time in which one gets his first investment with reasonable boxes and first high bolted to 'feel' the bass and physically to the music.

Gear / comfort:
Very good. Two detachable, single-sided cable (one straight and quite long, but what you can change with cable ties, the other a spiral cable and thus shorter). Both cables are quite thick and stiff. They make a solid impression and the connector see also robust from. No "break points" as in some other models. The male, however, are quite large and make a 90 ° bend, which makes them look strange when you connect iPod to as an MP3 player. The thickness and stiffness of the cable may also cause inadvertent movements that the plug from the socket pull. For this you have to be very clumsy, however, already. To me it is not yet happening.
The plug is a small 3.5 mm plug, the plug can be by means of a screw and an attachment to a 6.3 mm and then fits in the Hi-Fi amplifier. The connectors are gold-plated.
There are also a small leatherette bag in which the Massive leaves by folding system safe and space-saving storage.
The headset itself is made of plastic, but also makes an enormously stable and high-quality impression. The ear pads are made of artificial leather. I have had bad experiences with the material at my Sony MDR V700 as it is hardened by contact with the skin over the years and the anyway quite uncomfortable V700er made even more uncomfortable. For the MDR V700er there velor ear pads provide extra comfort. I hope that such a thing is at some point for Massive or the scene a few good Mod gets ideas. Maybe Ersatzpolster other models fit the devil. To date, leatherette ear pads, however, are absolutely comfortable and I have no problems. While it is warm, but it does not push and does not restrain, unlike most other closed models.

Sound:
The most important criterion for me. Generally speaking that the Massive is very bass-heavy. It wummert already gewalting in the shells and the sound of music will definitely discolored. However, the mids and highs are defined in the sound and not go under. Also jazz and classical music can be heard easily with the Massive and in my opinion the tonal coloration does so many good production even.
The spaciousness of the Massive is indeed given, but I would describe it as limited. Other headphones are to go much longer in a position in the width. However, the sound is still good. If you, for example productions from the 60s and 70s listening where experimented a lot with the new stereo sound and the spatial separation of instruments is sometimes extremely, the sound is absolutely distinguieren and divided pleasant. But one must say that in other Kofhörern a width as at a festival created during Massive rather has the width of a club to select a Besipiel. The course falls mainly in classical music into the weight, where the positioning of certain instruments or Intrumentgruppen is quite important.

I've tried to Massive to various sources. At one AKAI AM-55 Amp Sony CDP-XE 270 CD player, the iPod Classic 5th generation (30GB), the line-out of the laptop and the laptop duo / Fiio E10. On all sources of sound is excellent. What I like most of the sound from the laptop in conjunction with the Fiio E10 (Digital to Analog Converter + headphone amplifier), although I've angesehehen the digital format to be inadequate and, at best, as a last resort. The detail of Massive but puts inferior quality mp3 is open and I started to enjoy FLAC and 320 kb mp3s to use the music to the full extent.

Overall, one can say that the deep sound for some people might be used to, but that the headphones sound good in general.

Some examples I am now trying to describe the sound of Massive closer:

Pink Floyd's Dogs sounds pleasantly warm. The acoustic guitar is the foundation's wonderful bass rich and has a lot of physicality, the bass itself highlighted while the synths and the Solo Guitar defined clearly accentuate everything soft and organic their tunes. The drum is positioned centrally and Tom move when Fills around the center. The voice is clear and unobtrusive. The barking in the distance dogs were never clear for me to hear.

Frank Zappa's G-Spot Tornado is one of my standards when I get new headphones or new elements in the system. Here the spatial restrictedness headphone is unfortunately disclosed. But the sound itself is fantastic. The bass is crisp and not at all vague. The melody giving synth sounds are clearly defined in polyphonic and fast moments and rich in detail.

Down At Your Buryin 'by James Cotton sounds great with the warm, plucked bass. The bass itself is clear on the left, while the guitar from the right ear come. James' voice and harmonica are central. So warm Blues should always sound.

Iron Maiden and Running Free of the self-titled disc. The production is enhanced by the Enfärbung of Massive my opinion. The intro drum has a lot of steam and in general the album is close to the live sound. Deep, vibrant bass and clear mids and highs understandable. The voice is raspy and hoarse indeed, but they should be. The sound is not distorted or schwamnmig even in noisy moments. The heights are obvious but not intrusive, even if the solo guitar screeches.

Hiromi's spiral. Piano-based jazz. Actually, one would think that these headphones reproduce poorly with their bass concentration this music, but I am completely satisfied. In the quiet moments of the intro to learn to appreciate the closed system of Massive, because the outside world is effectively shielded. The high notes of the piano come to clear and the interaction of both hands on the keyboard is good to hear. The broom on drums not noisy and enriches the sound. The bass guitar is unschwammig in deep, and clearly accentuated being intrusive in high, melodic moments without. The synthesizer sounds rich and polyphonic. Much more resonant than I remembered him.

Darkthrone - In The Shadow Of The Horns. Black Metal from this period is definitely not hi-fi material. The guitars sizzle hollow and cold, but that they should. The slight left positioned percussion sounds despite the lo-fi production to very punchy. Generally one can say that these productions as the sound of Massive benefit. This also applies to the old Hellhammer things Demolition Hammer Tortured Existence's or the old Bolt Thrower Albums. However sound Suffocation with her low pitched and unterproduziertem sound a little muddy. After two songs you get used to it and I enjoy the very organic depth meanwhile. The whole creates a new kind of hardness and optimizes the sound of Suffocation.

The first movement of Beethoven's number 5. Quiet moments and orchestral bombast side by side. The resolution is good and you can concentrate on a single instrument and hear it. Especially the bombast comes to their best advantage. Analytical listeners would turn up his nose as if they had to listen to a piece of the massive, but I also believe it would and can get used to the tonal coloring.

Angel by Massive Attack live by Bass. And that is the best discipline of Massive. The whole mezzanine album sounds fantastic with headphones. I hear very little electronic music, as well as power plant and Tangerine Dream hear absolutely gorgeous on the Massive in. I have test times some modern produced Trance, Dubstep and Hip Hop stuff belongs although not at my usual genres. The Massive are apparently also perfectly suited for such a sound.

The sound apart from playing music is also excellent. The powerful bass is one in movies and series a feeling like being at the movies. The voices are very clear. A whisper is easy to understand what is especially helpful if you'd like to hear one or the other material in the original language.
Although I do not play many computer games, but also find the sound as well. I've dug up some old classics and experimented a little with it. Diablo 2, Jagged Alliance 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004 listen to a lot of valent and I find that the closed design, the immersion in the world of the game easier. However shooter fans are likely to have problems with the restricted positioning of sounds around you. Since there are probably better alternatives, but for me the sound is paramount.

Finally, I would say that the Aureol massifs are good headphones and for the price hard to beat. However, if you are looking for a neutral sound as possible it is better to invest more money and buy Sony MDR V6 or an open Sennheiser headphones. I hope that devil expand their headphones offer in the future and am definitely become a fan of the company.
