Barth's death comes suddenly and completely puts the war between father and son to an abrupt end. This random addition, the dangerous situation has solved in the easiest possible way. After the sequence, as Dan mentioned to have (story technically weak) a great plan, I had somehow expected that he will be the one who brings Barth jail. That could not be ruled out for outing him as Gossip Girl, quite the contrary. Instead, his plan was to get in Serina again.
Dan, as unscrupulous author who betrays his friends, however, this remains true, I like it well. If it was not the end: Serina comes back to him after having read the 2nd chapter about where your Dan confesses his true love. That leaves the bland flavor of the dumb blonde who can be fooled by nice words, and has virtually never developed further, precisely according to the description of Dan. He seems to be the last founding to mind. Great Women's taste and great role model function! (Irony)
Dan had the last intrigue to completely uncover, including facts about Barth Bass criminal existence. He would Serina, Chuck, Blair, Nate again to confront them with hard facts that comes total over way too bland. Dan would or herself, much more to deal with it in his concluding chapter, on Gossip Girl as broken and unscrupulously made him this world. That should stimulate the main characters to change something in itself. Instead, the main characters think they can now grow because Gossip Girl is dead at last. No drive by itself. The whole end was followed in two or three to the ultimate happy ending squeezed. This robs all the characters depth.
