Important tip: The laser printer has an internal counter and eventually the printer logs in, the cartridges are printed empty and must be replaced. But this is only the toner counter and does not say anything about the level of the toner cartridges. Now to reset the counter, switch it off and fully open when turned off top cover of the printer. With the flip open turn the printer on the display - a red "Error" lamp flashes every second. Now press simultaneously on the "Secure" and "Cancel" display and then release the buttons. Thus we come to reset in the menu to the individual meter for each toner cartridge. There are two settings for each color that can be reset (example: BK.TNR-STD and BK.TNR-STR black for the color black and waste toner box). Through this menu you go using the + and - keys (arrow up or down). Deleting one confirmed with "OK" and then the reset by pressing the button "+" (up arrow) - or Cancel by pressing the key "-" (down arrow).
By this action, the internal counter is reset to zero and you can print until the toner cartridges are really empty. My last Brother color laser printer (HL-3070) printed with the starter toner of the advertised 700 pages real 1400 printouts. The reset I had with my old printer by 3x (but with a different key combination), because the printer groused after 300 printing, the cartridges are empty and must be replaced. Please note, that at some point, of course, each cartridge is printed once empty and must be replaced with a full cartridge !! ;) Replacement toner cartridges are labeled: TN-242
I write it therefore in such detail because I have been looking for this tip and you would like to help low to print with this color laser printers and unnecessarily exchange half-empty toner cartridges. This tip works with all three new printer versions: Brother HL-3142, Brother HL-3152 and even with Brother HL-3172nd
This printer, I can recommend with good conscience further - a very well-made and sturdy device (nothing rattles or rattles) feels real dibasic.
