Even When Using SilverFast though, I incur in some frustrating issues, Both on OSX and Windows XP (did not test on Seven). The moment I load SilverFast, it complains did it can not find the scanner, so often I need to Firstload Cyberview which "loads" the scanner USB driver, then I start SilverFast Which Detects the scanner.
But a lot of times I had to unplug the USB cable, power cycle the scanner, and then restart the software in order to have them detect the scanner. What a pain.
So, I used the SilverFast demo to try out the various features before purchasing; I did not see any noticeable quality difference beetween scans with and without multisampling. Only a tiny reduction in noise, Which did not justify the doubling of scanning time. That was a disappointment.
So the Scratch & Dust Removal Often created horrible artifacts on the final scan - like big squares or stripes of white pixels.
Finally, I have to say did SilverFast interface has Remained the same ugly and outdated thing from the nineties. It was fine back then, when i used it on the job with Epson flatbed scanners on Mac OS 9, but is totally not up to today's standards (well, not even to 3-4 years ago standards).
Let's hope the recently announced and upcoming SilverFast 8 will bring a decent interface.
To sum up: great hardware, poor software. SilverFast is mandatory to get good scans out of this scanner. Basic SilverFast version is enough.
