What makes a good portrait lens?
- Good image quality at maximum aperture
The lens is at maximum aperture of course not knackscharf that can be from a KB lens with this light intensity also do not expect. Is it hot enough? For me, definitely. Just at the very frugal sensor the D700, the lens comes to advantage if it also works so well on a smaller sensor D7000 and more megapixels, I can not judge.
-Freistellpotential
One can find all. At aperture 1.8 to FX can still clearly isolate groups of people from the background. For head portraits and the like should be dim in most cases on panel 4 or higher, which also leads to improved sharpness. Overall, I still experienced any situation where my creativity has been limited by the lens.
-Treffsicherer Autofocus
The lens focused unerringly and fast enough for me. It may be that the ultrasonic motors of neurons lenses are faster, but it was good enough for portraits. This focus is not silent, but in my opinion not disturbing. Since I have with my last portrait lens (Olympus ZD 50mm 2.0 macro) experienced very different Geräuchorgien.
-Angenehmes Bokeh
Of course, is always a matter of taste. I think it's good.
It is also great that the lens hood is supplied. Today's not normal.
Disturbing, however, is that unscrewing the lens hood into the filter thread, instead of having an extra thread for as newer lenses.
This is from two points of view really stupid:
a) is when screwing the risk that you slip off with the lens hood and scars on the front lens - does the remuneration determined not good. I never use other UV filters, but in this case I would absolutely recommend.
b) You can not vice versa set up for transport on the lens, as is the case with current lenses the lens hood. This makes the lens during transport is unnecessarily bulky. In addition, you can not install with an attached lens shade the lens cap. Have behälfsmäßig bought a Nonamedeckel who now front on the lens hood sits on it. So go, but optimally is something else.
The problems with the lens hood are indeed disturbing, but that does not detract from that, what matters ultimately: a super ratio of price / performance figure.
