First off, the CD 1. 6 Songs with nearly 80 minutes of playing time. Since you are warned ..... Let's go with an absolute cracker, "A Nightmare to Remember". The song from like the famous fire department goes, it rocks endlessly the first few minutes. Then, in the middle section, you will hear a wonderful vocal melody, the DT all honor is worth. That's exactly what makes DT. Hardness up to go-almost-no-more, and then a gnadelloses songwriting with great melodies.
It follows "A rite of passage", very good song, almost radio friendly with his riff. All in all, something easily digestible.
With "Whiter" is followed by the obligatory ballad, nothing earth-shattering, but a beautiful song, which is presented beautifully by LaBrie.
"The Shattered Fortress" is the hardest song on the CD. Although I have now heard the CD several times, the recognition of the song is less than with the other pieces. It is also not the riff or hook in it which distinguishes the other. But there is still perhaps ....
If you thought so far: Mmmmh, not bad, which must now take good care. For the last two songs set DT standards in rock area.
"The best of times" is the absolute highlight of the album for me. Quiet starting the song evolved into a melodic, but never a trivial or catchy song. On the contrary, the harmonic progression amazed, but after 4-5 times will hear people think that it had to be different as well and in any case. Class!
The last part will "The Count of Tuscany". Here each fan is operated, whether he would rather like the calm or the hard DT. Everything is perfectly matched, and Petrucciani plays guitar like a god.
CD 1 is therefore all honor worth 5 stars.
The CD 2, with 6 cover songs of Queen, among others, Rainbow and King Crimson is certainly not to everyone's taste. "Stargazer" by Rainbow like it very much, is drifting like the original and rocking like hell. "The fact that they strung together by Queen 3 songs from my favorite album" Sheer Heart Attack "play that pleases me very much. And they have kept so close to the original, too. Of course LaBrie is not Mercury, but has to" Funster Tenement " not already sung. So here also, thumbs up. The best succeeded appears however "Larks Tongues in Aspic Pt. 2 "by King Crimson. Stylistically, prog, Is this best for DT. Sounds almost better than the original, and probably just as well.
CD 3 contains then the complete instrumental part of CD 1. Nice idea for all who like the instrumental music, or perhaps dislike LaBries voice.
All in all for the price is very much necessary, especially as the quality is impeccable.
